OEM Ignition Coil install this weekend
Hey my brothers from other mothers
I should be getting my used OEM coils by this weekend. They were shipped out yesterday (express) so hoping to get them by this Friday Nov. 7. IF I get them is anyone around that would like to help me out with the install on Saturday? My car is stuck at my place, so anyone interested would have to come here.
Thx! This is still a maybe, depends if they show up, but wanna obviously get my car back on the road asap.
If not no hard feelings, I will just have to kick ya'll in the NUTZ!!
Cheers!!
update Did a DIY in this thread on how to uninstall coils.

Dude it's along drive for you, so please don't feel like you have to!! Maybe the best thing to do is give me a ring or txt close to the end of your shift and I can let you know where I'm at.
HAHA funny fukin guy!! Dude if you go to the casino and get home at 8:30 I have NO prob's with you sleepin in
I luv my sleep so I don't know like 1ish. It gets dark so early now, so just want to make sure we are done before then. It doesn't seem like a big job. Have to remove part of my CAI tho.

what kind of intake are you using?
i had to swap out my coils at a dealership. i have the K&N intake so i could work around it. if you still have the OEM intake you might need to remove it to get to the coils. a ratcheting screwdriver with a long flexible extension with 10mm bit would really be helpful.

yeah... I'll make sure my calendar is clear for Saturday... I'll bring my tool kit as well (it never leaves the back of my car anyways).
See if you can get some instructions from somewhere... check the manuals (think there's a post in the DIY section). If not just get the aftermarket instructions from one of the kits... we'll just reverse the removal part.

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ight=diy+coils Sorry looks like one bolt holding them on. Less work, but an extension ratchet will be best.
Will let everyone know one way or the other by Friday night if I get them. Thx again!

Thx man!! There actually isn't much of a DIY with clear instructions with pictures on the swap. Maybe we will make one From what I have read and such it doesn't look to difficult since I'm not even swapping the wires yet. Think there is only a bolt or two holding each coil onto the bracket. Unplug the plug wire and the wiring harness swap, plug back in. That's the theory
oh yeah, the dealership didn't like it too much when i was changing my own coils in their parking lot. oh well saved me about $400 they were trying to charge me.

you pretty much have it. make sure if you remove all the wires to label them so you don't mix them up. i did 2 at a time so it wasn't too hard to keep track of but not much room to work with. my hands got cut up a little bit. the spark plug cables suck to remove BTW unless they used some kind of grease the last time.

I had new plugs and wires done in June of this year, so hope they aren't that bad to get off
Ya they were going to charge me $426 cad + tax. CRAZY!! I thought about doing at the stealership like you did, but was so pissed at them I paid to tow it out of there cause I didn't want my car near them anymore.
How long did it take you?

ThIef bring your sub to man and we can all check it out. Can't promise buying it yet or anything since this extra work and the coil kit upgrade has set me back a bit.

you should be able to get them swapped in less than 30 minutes.....it is a tight area though so you will scrape up your hands...........just be carefull when you put the new coild on you dont overtighten the nuts cause you will snap the bolts....they aren't very strong....then you'll have to pull out the plate, fabricate new mounts, get new bolts.....etc, etc......dont ask....it was an experiance...hehe.

my saturday will be mostly running around again, but if i can make it, i'll msg you via iphone I did the coils and RB Ultra wires about a month ago in my carport, wasn't too bad, the wobble/universal joint is a great idea though, as well as numbering the wires, the bolts on my coils were cruddy as well so take care and watch your knuckles

Sounds good to me!

it wasn't the nut it was the bolt that snapped.....and they are spot welded in.....which means if you snap them the plate needs to come out, you have to grind off thehead of the bolt then find a replacement....also, I have big hands so I scrape myself all the time....but you are right....it would be working on a car with out hurting yourself....and remember...blood and oil mix
