Oil Level
Hey guys, just a quick question here....Since I got my 8, I've put on roughly 1500kms....at what point should I check the oil? I've heard its around the 3000km mark...is that accurate or is it on a car by car basis?
Thanks in advance

Since its new, it will consume more oil. After a while the consumption will be more or less consistent, until then check it regularly. I do it every full tank at first, now I could leave it for 2 to 3 full tank unless you always pull to redline (more consumption). Next time use the SEARCH button.

Disagree - ignore StealthTL at your peril, he is one of the earliest RX-8 owners, and has extensive knowledge and history with the RX-8.
See, that question begs for a smartass answer! However...
Where did you hear it's around 3000 km to CHECK the oil? Honestly, you should try reading your owners manual, cover to cover. It recommends checking the oil at EVERY fill-up. Every second, at least. While the actual oil usage might be a litre every 3000 km approximately, it's NOT exact, and can vary depending on conditions and how you drive over the interval.
CHECK every fillup or two.
ADD when the oil level gets near the fill mark, whick will likely be after 2000 - 3000 kms.

Gordon

yes it sucks, especially in the winter when the milkshakes start to happen. There is a new dipstick for the RX-8 with better markings but not sure how much they are. It's in the technical bulletin but I don't remember if it's changeable under warranty for anything, never looked into it.
