Okay, which one of you was it? (Driver clocked at 185 km/h)

when's the last time you went 185 on a track? most tracks you cant get anywhere near that speed the only place you can is public roads.
everytime i think about going FI i realize as of right now i can only hold my car WOT for 13seconds or so before i'm over 150kmh so why bother. i know when im stuck behind someone doing 80 and i downshift to 3rd and pin it to the floor by the time im next to them im over 130 and in danger of not driving for a very long period of time. i really do feel its come to the point where cars have become to fast to drive anywhere near their potential. its why i get so much joy out of driving the focus its slow i can drive it to a 110% without breaking any laws.

I was thinking the same thing as thewird. At Mt. Tremblant I was breaking 200km/h (I stopped looking down) and even on my home track of Atlantic Motorsport Park which is very tight with no real straight, I can hit 180km/h.

Wow. I've not been to Shannonville, so I find that surprising. I didn't figure anything could be tighter than AMP. We don't even have a straight, really. (our "back straight" starts entering turn 5 and ends at turn 7.)

Well the back straight is pretty long but the corner before it is very very tight. So I guess the stock RX-8 can't make those speeds. I've only ever driven a turbo RX-8 which I tuned so I wouldn't know.

Most of the time the speed people think they are going at Mosport or Shannonville on the back straights are "very agressive" to say the least. A few actually make the calculation using wheel diameter, final drive ratio and RPM from a reliable tachometer ( factory ones arent usually close). Just to give you some actual speeds at Mosport:
Dyson Racing LMP2 in qualifing trim max speed 170mph ,1874lbs car with out driver 500 HP lap time 1:06.6 taken right from the team engineers computer telemetry (I was standing beside him when the cars were on track)
BC race cars Trans-Am/GT1 2974lbs with driver 810HP 182.3 MPH 1:19.6 lap time
taken from the "TrackMate computer using GPS and transponder
ABR RX7, 2537lbs with driver 4:88 gear, 330HP 141.02 mph 1.366 lap time lap time from transponder, speed from Autometer Pro-Comp tach and gear ratio/Tire diameter.
To get to 150 mph in a street driven car is a huge stretch at Mosport, other than some 500+ factory cars (Z06 Vette, some Porsche/Ferrari) it doesnt usually happen. A stock RX8 on a radar gun got to 120mph once, with the average run being 112-116mph depending on how they got through turn 5.

Good point Al. I should have said "indicated over 170km/h" which is probably more like 105km/h or something at the level of accuracy of the stock cluster.
I don't have a speedo in the RX7, and I choose not to do the math on revs.. I'm happier not knowing...
That info on the LMP vs. Trans-Am car is really interesting. The difference in top speed is significant, but the difference in lap time is massive in the other direction. Shows the power of down force and corner speed.
