There has been a lot of activity from the Toronto guys on the forum lately and I was wondering if anybody from Ottawa is still out there?

Just let us all know what's going on... good or bad dealership/maintenance experiences, etc..... I still haven’t decided what shop to take my car on a full time basis.

Anybody been able to get the latest flash?

I know a while back there was talk of finding a clear bra dealer in Ottawa for a GB but it just faded out of existence.
Goldwing autocare on Bank street will do it with a product called ClearShield....anybody interested in that or anything else????

Have yet to have any maintenance done on the car, only 2K so far. I haven't had any prior experience with Mazda service and I bought the car in Toronto. That leaves me pretty much in the dark about the local dealers so I would also be interested in others experiences.

I am not very interested in the clear bra stuff, not totally sold on the concept yet . . .

I had the oil changed in early April. It only had about 3500Km on it but it had been parked for three months in the winter. I had called performance mazda about the manifold recall beforehand. They did that work and they also did the airbag recall. So that was good.

What I didn't like was that one of the mechanics took the car for a drive without my consent. I don't like the fact that someone drove my car without asking. I even had had a discussion with my insurance agent not too long before this hapenned. I was told that if a person drives my car with my permission that they are covered under my policy. I wonder what would have happened if the mechanic had an accident? Regardless, I would have prefered to have been asked out of common courtesy. At least then, I could have drove for the mechanic. I hope that they had their fun because there will be no 'next time' with them.

New Member - just received my car this week. I bought at Bank Street Mazda. No service yet but I did have accessories installed by the dealer and Goldwing. I got the clear shield done at Goldwing.

When I bought my car the dealer had two yellow 8's. An automatic and my Manual. The person who bought the automatic requested under coating and rust protection. Guess who's car they sent out for this service : (

Upon delivery my Sales Rep, on behalf of the Sales manager, wanted me to kick something in for the service they had done. All legit of course ; )

I'm storing the car for the winter so I had no need for the service and what a mess they made. I had to have the engine shampooed + the protection service wasn't applied very well in the first place.

I can't say that I had a very good experience with Bank Street Mazda Service.
I remember some other people complaining about them as well.

How was the service at Goldwing with the clearshield? How much and was it done well?

The Deluxe Hood and Bumper Kit was $554 and $150 for a custom piece on the front air dam. I have pics of the install which I will be posting. The application is excellent! Goldwing used to work with the 3M product in the past but found the ClearShield to be better all round.

As for dealerships, I don't have a much personal experience with Mazda but I can't say any of them appear better than the other at this point.

To be honest for all the vehicles I have owned, Donnelly Ford has had the best service but.... they didn't have the car I wanted.

I come only hope Mazda service will be good in the future. I have already met the mechanic who will work on my car and have established a relationship. It's good to deal with him directly.

I had a Shock Sensor installed and within the week I have had it removed. I can't even believe it was offered to me as an accessory - given that Mazda has a service bulliten out on it.

It seems that Bank Street Mazda has never done any RX-8 accessorizing before my car. The accessories that came with my purchase were all first time installtions for the dealer.

I have been dealing with Performance Mazda. Although I had a bit of a pain the first time for service, the service manager there said that he used to deal with all the RX-7 owners, and suggested I deal with him directly. That has worked well so far.

The parts guy did try to offer several winter tire/wheel packages, and listened to what I wanted. In the end, the price (including the sales tax savings), made me go with Talon Tire group buy.

All in all, I like them, and drive from the west end to get to them.

Yes, I get all my stuff done at Performance Mazda because Bank St. Mazda screwed me over when I got my rear taillights replaced (chipped paint on my rear bumper during installation.) I got all my recall stuff done as well as the new engine flash and new oil pan. All I can say is that my city driving was getting me 288km / tank and now I'm getting 430km/ tank. Not sure if it was from the FLASH or something kicked in because I had gone over a certain amount of KM's on my car (at 6700 kms now).

That's a huge change in mileage. You changed tail lights on which car? Not the 8?

I know a guy who works around the courner from Camco Acura but prefers to deal with Casino Acura over in Hull. Its particularily funny because hell use their shuttle service.

Goes to show good service is worth the drive.

Thumbs down

Having had the misfortune of dealing with Bank Street Mazda in the past, I bought my 8 from Performance. Gus was my salesman, a true gentleman.

I've also had very good success with Carling Mortors.

The bottom line is AVOID Bank Street Mazda like the PLAGUE!
If you're over 40 or so you'll remember the Dilawri family and their run-ins with the law.

Taillights

Yep had to get both rear taillights replaced they were the prototypes and didn't have the proper absorbtion material so they cracked the first day I took my car on the road. Mazda had put on the wrong taillights. Thats why my VIN ends in 0001 most likely first one off the line
