Price check on Rx8, 2005 / 6 model
Hi all, just wondering if you foolks have any updates on the price range for the 2005/6 model Rx8?
Is it true that a facelift/update is coming in 2007 model? How about the elusive Mazdaspeed 8 that appeared in Japan since 2003? Will they EVER bring this to Canada?
My 1.8T is getting old...and I really want to avoid fixing the car at 10% of its 2nd hand price..
Thanks!

mazdaspeed 8 wont come to canada within next 2 or 3 years. However u can get mazdaspeed parts for the 8 at mazda dealers. They are sold separately and so damn expensive. Forget about mazdaspeed. Just get the normal 8 and add some replica body kit which u could find in some auto stores.

you can probably expect to get a 2005 at this time for the same price that many of us have gotten it for. I don't know what province you are from but here in Alberta, we have all CONSISTENTLY got GTs w/o moonroof for about 40K tax INCLUDED. Those with moonroof and nav about 1000 and 2500 more respectively. I can't remember exactly but without tax, it was roughly 38K or so.
I have posted up my invoice in the past so either do a search or search under my name.

Please PM me the info on the deals too, I'm looking to buy in the next few months if I can score a good deal. Also does anyone know the invoice on the GS and a base GT, I still havent decided which one to get.

I did a bit of searching and found the following. ..
Invoice prices:
2005 GS 33185
2004 GT base 36166
Are these still accurate? Did the invoice increase on the 05 GT? I'm guessing it's within a few hundred. Also my understanding is that freight (925) and AC tax (100) is added to invoice, so when calculating the actual dealer cost should I add 1025 onto the invoice prices quoted above?
And I also heard in other threads that if you pay cash you can get an extra 2000 off, becasue this is normally paid to the bank if you finance at a subsidized low interest rate.
So that would make the effective cash invoice price about 33185+1024-2000 = 32209 for the GS not including any other dealer incentives that might be offered.

More or less. You have to add the dealer costs on top of MSRP and taxes. It does adjust the prices available on the Mazda.ca pricing. You're not likely to get much if you pay cash; the financing rate is ridiculously low for RX-8s, that it's not worth fronting the cash unless you can do so without borrowing or selling off something making a decent return.
Your ability to haggle down the dealer is dependent upon location and the demand for your particular car in that region. That being said, most people can easily get $1800-2100 off the purchase price.

I also saw in another thread that dealer holdback is 3% of MSRP, this is in the US but it's probably the same in Canada, anyone know otherwise?
I dont expect to actually get this much off the car but it may be good to use as a barging tool.
Regarding paying cash, I'm pretty conserative fiscially and I think if you can pay cash, you should, unless you are extremely bullish on the markets. Yah I may do better then 5% return in the markets but I dont think it's worth the risk. This year my investments are up about 25% but I think this was an anomoly and dont expect similar returns in 2006, so I think I'll cash out and get my first new car.
And I think my credit sucks and I will likley get a higher interest rate, I remember year ago a cute chick talked me into applying for a Canadian tire card and I was denied, I though damn how bad is my credit if I get denied by Canadian Tire.

Dealer mark-up above invoice is what they 'get'; if they get above MSRP, then they are getting more than the mark-up. What you're trying to do is figure out what the dealer invoice price is, and that is often a very well guarded dealer secret. What most people do is figure out what 3% of purchase price is, and then work backwards, to determine what the dealer invoice price is. Canadian dealership structure is different than that in the states, so they tend to have similar pricing on new models.
However, exactly what that margin is will differ between manufacturers and even then, between models. SUVs and trucks, for example, tend to have higher differences between MSRP and dealer invoice; little entry level cars will tend to have lower differences. With sports cars it is quite different; unless the car is a dog in sales, or the company needs to move lots of them, you won't necessarily see a big dump in prices - they'll start to throw in things for 'free', or have financing rates approaching zero to entice sales. They will try and avoid taking a loss on the sale, so below dealer invoice price isn't all that common.
The more option boxes you tick, the larger the gap between MSRP and dealer invoice. What I recommend is to come in hot, ask for around 5% of MSRP as a starting point, and go from there. The worst they can do is refuse you, and if you are serious, you'll keep negotiating.
One tip: if you're less than $750 apart on terms, and unless you're raving mad, they won't let you walk out the door without a sale. Be firm and friendly!

some time this past june (2005) here in toronto, i remember seeing advertisements for 2005 rx-8's for a monthly lease rate of only $300... my eyes nearly fell out of my head!
it req'd a $5,000 downpayment and i'm sure it was the base model... but if i hope to lease an rx-8 in the next year, can i expect a similar type of deal?
thanks, guys...

Probably. It's a lease, remember? They make money off of you, so I wouldn't be surprised if they still have it going. Check out Mazda.ca to see if the offer is still available.
With $5000 down, it'll probably be a long lease period to get near $300 a month; it's unlikely to be much less than $350, however.

Hello, 1st time posting...bought the 8 GT a month ago so figure I would give my 2cents on this...
from what I remember (so these are rough numbers only!)...for the 2005GT model...if you pay in full, the price is about $43K on the road...this includes a ~$2K money back for paying in full and dependence on how much you can negotiate...
if you are finanicing....(4 yrs) is 1.9% and anything under 3 yrs is 0% -> as far as I can remember...
for a 4yrs lease....monthly payment is a little under $600 w/ $0 down...(awesome deal!!)
the only thing about buying the 2005 model now (at least in TO) is that there might not be a lot of color choices left (I was happy that I got my Velocity Red)...because the dealers now are pretty much trying to move their 2005 inventory...while the 2006 models won't be coming till after winter (more likely in March)....so now is a good time to buy considering this is now the "off season" to buy a sports car..
