Price of a Mazda Dealer Oil Change
What have you paid at a Mazda Dealer?
I called a local Mazda dealer yesterday to schedule an oil change for today. They quoted $31.00 CDN Tax in, sounded reasonable, I did confirm they would use 5W20 as that's what the RX8 called for. My RX8 only has 3400 KM, so I'm paying for it. Next service will be on Mazda.
Dropped it off, when I picked it up the bill included a charge of $ 5.35/litre for 5W20 (no bulk pricing) total came to $52.00 ....WTF.....
I told the Service Manager it would be the last time I take it here, and reminded him the person who took my appointment quoted $31.00 tax in.
The waiting room had 7 or so people in it, they over heard the complaint. The Service MGR said there must be a mistake $5.35/litre did seem too high and proceeded to redo the bill for $31.00.

I took my 8 in for a scheduled oil change last week and they were going to charge me for $32 + taxes. It was my first oil change and before that I added about 1.5L of Esso 5w20 oil as it was low.
I was somewhat surprise to learn that they don't normall check their computer for owner's information and any maintenance applicable. I gave the guy a list of things to check including interior noise, transmission noise and glinding, poor fuel milleage (way too high comparing to the spec), oil light at highway speed, and brake noise. Guess what, as I had expected, the only thing that was done was oil change, and they said everything was fine for all other items. As for the oil light, they are still waiting for the new part and don't know when it will come in.
It would seem to me that this dealer doesn't have much clue about the 8 and I am wondering if anyone has better luck with other dealer's service department in paying extra attention to serveral known issues with the 8.
Thank you!!!

SQ88: Do you wish to elaborate on which dealer this was in the Toronto area? I'm getting my 8 in april of next year, and in the meantime I'm trying to feel out a good dealer service area, so I don't fudge the warranty.

I got my first oil change at 1000km (5 days after I took delivery) and when I brought it in, the guy said they weren't even starting their RX-8 training until the next week.
The upside is, since only a few of their techs would be RX-8 trained, they set it up so the same guy will do all the work on my car. I like that.

THanks for the heads up all.
Broose: Unfortunatly I live in Oshawa, and Miss is way closer to Hamilton then me. I have an Rx-7 mechanic, that I'd bring my car (rx7) to for stuff I couldn't or didn't wanna do. But I'm going to be reading my warranty real close and only put the car in when absolutely neccessary as I don't like to get raped by any dealer (read as paying to much for "normal service").
We'll see. I'm keeping my eyes and ears peeled.
