Price in Toronto
Hey there
Looking at buying a 6sp GT w/ moonroof in Toronto and wondering what people have been paying for these cars in Toronto (or Canada) dealers
So far, I've not had much luck with bargaining the dealers down in Toronto.
What have people been paying?

2004 GT, sunroof. No Nav list CAN$40,595 paid Can$38,595. At the time I bought a car broker could only get $1,000 off so I took the matter in my own hands and got $2,000 off. No leasing or financing. I heard some guy out in Calgary paid like $40K or something all in including taxes. I think its BS. But if they don't pay taxes in Calgary (which I also heard) I guess its possible! Dig in to it. It may be worth your while to buy the car there and drive it back!

Shamblerock, I'm afraid to say that we are not BSing when it came to the 40K ALL IN price. There are actually THREE of us that got it for that price (GT no roof). Myself and Rotten42 got it for 40.5K all in. I believe HardBody got it recently for 39.6K all in. We do pay GST. if you don't believe me, I can post my invoice.

To Daddyg, please do a SEARCH. There was an EXACT same post RECENTLY by Moses (who's also in Ontario).

Blue frenzy, I took a quick look at the posts. I am really not that far off then because you don't pay PST, which is 7% (approx $2,750) Takeoff my sunroof and my price was 37,595 + 1,000 freifght etc, = 38,600 + 8% gst = 41,688. So that makes things a bit closer since you do not pay PST.
One other thing to keep in mind: If you lease or finance, they are making more money on that component as well and therefore they are prepared to take a few more dollars off.
Seriously, you should post your receipt so others could print it off and present it to the dealer they visit for a no hagle purchase. Just cross off your name and important stuff.

It wasn't bullshit......I think the biggest thing is people need to take a course on how to deal with car salesmen. It should take you at leat 3 visits to the dealer in the closing office before you sign on the dotted line. Some people are so hot to get the car that they cave too early.
At the time I was a bit pissed that I didn't get more off the price. I'm sure you all got the line from your salesman..."these things are selling so fast..we can't keep them on the lot". So Frickn' what?!....what does that have to do with me? I was only interested on my deal, not what the car had previously been going fo or how fast they wwere going.
Start playing the dealers off each other. They absolutley hate that! And don't get ethical about promising a dealer that you won't go back to the other dealer after he gives you his "best" deal.....its your money!
I learned to grind the car guys from my dad. When he did the deal the first car I bought he held out for a week over $150. It damm near killed me. People should go on a trip to Mexico before they buy a car so they can sharpen their shppoing skills.

ha ha ... you hit the nail on the head with the "how to deal with salesmen"
I took it to the extreme and took a total of 6 weeks to hammer out the deal. ALWAYS play dealers off each other. Kept saying that "the Kramer guy is giving this amount" to the northhill guy, and vice versa. Also, I did the "good guy bad guy" approach ... I "claimed" that I'm borrowing a bit money from my folks and that my pop's is REALLY stingy and won't lend me the amount they're wanting. That way I always had an out. So pin the wife, folks, etc as bastards and don't be afraid to walk out (even if they claim that somebody else is interested in the car).
you know what ... those sales guys take courses on how to clinch deals, what to say to get your heart rate going (get you into panic mode) and how to get people to crack (ie "my manager is bastard and he said no to your offer, this is the best, take it or leave it"). One time, when i was talking to one dealer, he had a book on sales tactics on his desk!!
Go in armed with knowledge of the invoice price (found here in the forum), what fees are optional (also found in this forum), technical specs (most sales guys only know the basic HP, torque, etc), and what others have paid (ALSO here in the forum ... this forum rules!).
Good luck

DaddyG ... did you not look at the links I provided???
That is a CRAPPY DEAL ... basically you are paying the MSRP! Don't get suckered. Even with Nav that would be a so-so deal.
Here is what the dealers pay for the car (invoice price).
INVOICE for GT no roof: 36166
INVOICE for GT w/ roof: 37081 (ie 915 for roof)
Aim for Shamblerock's price because that is roughly what you should be paying in Ontario (ie ~43K ALL IN) for a 04 GT. The difference between the GT w/o roof and w/ roof should only be 1000.

OK ... everybody who's buying a new car ... TAKE A LOOK AT THIS BEFORE ASKING ABOUT PRICES. This is my invoice for a 04 GT without roof. With roof it would have been 1000 more. View the attachment in full screen mode. As you can see, $40500 ALL IN. No excuses, ok?
