Question re Canadian RX-8's - moonroof

Hi everyone, I'm new to the forum. I'm in the market for a new car, and, having been driving an SUV for the past 10 years, am looking for something smaller and sporty. I have started researching the lexus IS, infiniti G, mitsubishi Evo X, and the RX-8.

I have sat in a few RX-8's in Toronto dealerships, and, like some members of this board, have found that I am too tall for moonroofed models (I am 6'2, and find that I hit my head on the roof if I sit up straight, and especially above where the suicide doors close to the left of the driver's head). In Canada, the GT model can only be purchased with a moonroof. I suppose I could look at a base RX-8 (GS), but I definitely prefer the luxury features available in the GT (heated & power leather seats, sat/nav, etc., which are deal breakers as far as options go). I asked a salesperson whether a GT could be made to order without a moonroof, and he said it could not be done... that the GS and GT models are made on different lines or something. I figured I would pose the same question to the experts on this board, seeing as the salesperson really didn't appear to know much about the car (I found that I knew more just from reading the mazda website).

So, I ask you all kindly: do you think it would be possible to order a GT without a moonroof? Is that something a dealership would accommodate for a sale? Thanks.

I don't see why you can't get those things as dealer options or something. The only thing I'd wonder about is the DSC and TCS as I don't know how much work it is to get those installed.

But really, I think they are just blowing the lazy smoke at you. Though, we can wait for someone a little more informed on the subject to answer.

Mine's a Canadian GT, no moonroof.....

They are an option (unless the dealer only has '8s with moonroofs, in which case they will LIE to you.)

Tell 'em go fugemselves, you'll buy in the US and save $10k.......

(....I went to mazda.ca and mazda.com, seems I lied - it's only $5k less in the US)

I'm 6'1" and I'm fitting in there ok. I just tilt the front of my seat all the way up and the back all the way down. It is worth it to get the 8 if you can find a way to be comfortable in it.

Correct. Also, while the sunroof is theoretically an option on 04-08, I've only ever seen one GT without a sunroof. If you really want nav, it is only available on cars with a sunroof, that's just the way Mazda chose to spec the options in Canada.

I am about 6' tall, and I fit in the sunroof cars, but I do have to have the seat back just a bit more than I like and I definitely can't do it with a helmet.

most pre-moustachio RX-8 has moon-roof in GT form eventhough they are supposed to be an option. I like it thought. Adds sun light in the cabin.

I just returned a red 2004 GT model without a moonroof to the Richmond Hill dealership about 2 weeks ago. Apparently a GT without a moonroof is a rare find.
Good luck!

I think his question was relating to 2009 models. It used to be no problem to order a GT without a moonroof but maybe not now.

And in the US, the moon roof for the GT is an option ($900). Also it doesn't seem you have to pay for a non-black colour.
