Questions Before Purchase

Hey guys,

I am sure someone's asked these questions a million times so please be patient with me

There is a copper red with black and white interior rx8 for sale at a local dealer with 12000km on it(demo) for 35995 in Montreal. I found one close to Quebec city with 50km on it for 33900. Why is the price so much lower then the msrp?

For the one with 12000km how low should I try to go on price especially considering there is a new one just over 3 hours away for much less? I don't mind walking out. rx8s seem to have flooded the market in Montreal recently.

Finally how serious is this flooding issue? Can it be avoided? What upgraded has Mazda done to try to fix it and are the fixes under warranty?

Anything in particular I should look at when I check the car out? Common issues that are easy to spot? etc....?

Anyways any productive comments would be very welcome!

If the rx8 thing does not work out I will most likely get a gti

Thanks!

I think the prices are low because there are a lot of new '06s around - I read on this forum that Mazda overproduced them. I would not be afraid of these prices but I think you can possibly do better. I just bought an '06 at Mazda of Toronto 2 weeks ago, with 6700km, and sunroof and spoiler - in perfect condition for $30K plus taxes and no other charges. I couldn't be more pleased with my new purchase - she is gorgeous and a pleasure to drive. I have not been too careful about the flooding thing and have not had a problem. Send me a message if you want details about the dealer and I will put you in touch. I live in Ottawa and had to go pick it up but it was worth the $ saved.

Never buy a Demo. Thsoe are the cars that the Service manager, dealership manager, mechanics, and potential customers all BEAT ON. They usually run like ****.

Romanroman --> to answer some of your questions, the price may be lower near Quebec City because it may be an older model year (2005?) or just too much inventory in QC. With only 50km on odometer, that definitely is a huge PLUS considering the one in Montreal has 12K worth of demo driving. If I were you, I'd definitely consider the QC one.

Flooding is not an issue (just don't start, move the car 2 feet and stop ... common sense like with any car). As long as the dealerships have updated your PCM flashes to the most current ones and have done all the proper recalls, you should be ok.

Good luck!

The dealers are selling off the '06's to make room for the '07's.

Give me call.
I can obtain brand new '06 models from $31,195!

These are brand new models with no mileage, so no need to buy a used RX8.

what are the main differences between '06 and '07 RX-8s?

too much '06 inventory because they made too many compared to previous years? or are people just not buying them?

as for the flooding issue, I really haven't seen that many cases reported here for '06 and up

I think it is just a seasonal thing....not much demand for
sports cars in the winter.
Last year my local dealership didnt have a new 8 to even look at in June
and part of July
No real dif between years.
and that flooding issue is way overdone....no big deal

The only changes from '06 to '07 were colour choices.
No big changes.

You had a long distance relationship with a girl from Antioch and you were in NY? Must've been a really nice/pretty girl? I got'cha beat though, when I lived/was stationed in Alameda, CA I dated a girl from Thunder Bay, Ontario. About 35hrs, and 2395 mile difference. I used to go to Antioch for parties and such way back when. Next time you're in SF, the first round is on me.

Err. Did anyone say CDN$? I was replying to the salesperson who sald $31k. And by the way "$" means AMERICAN MONEY. If you want to talk ABOOT Canuck Bucks you have to either put a "C" in front of our [AMERICAN]"$" or use the "CAD" designation--why don't you have another Guiness, there, tough guy...pfft. Sounds like you've been breathing in too much of our pollution...

Furthermore, if you want to convert--just calculate ONE AMERICAN DOLLAR is ABOOT 1.1609 Canuck bucks. Profess that...

It is so American to walk into the Canada Forum and expect us to specify the use of our own money!! The salesman was from Oakville Mazda (near GTA, as in greater Toronto area) and he was talking to a fellow Canadian. At least you put some effort into your post with all the colourful words.

"LaLa" is universal, brother! In any time-zone, country, continent, hemisphere!

I thought that the little smilie was the universal 'I'm f#cking with you' sign. I figured you just didn't notice the Canada Forum label.

If I'm in your area I'll take you up on the beer offer

For sure. But let me be clear now--before I get hundreds of members PM'ing me--I'm buying the FIRST round...I do get thirsty past 1 pint. I, too, enjoy a nice icy Guiness Draught! I don'[t mess with the watery-Corona ****. Dark beers all night long!

Uh, OK.

Back to the topic at hand, then, shall we?

It's winter time. Anything to move an underperforming sports coupe model is fair game. Quebec City likely has a much smaller market for the 8s, and that's why the pricing is more competitive. Another thing to consider is that Mazda has an arrangement among the dealerships that the better performing dealerships (i.e. like those that sell a lot of 3s, for example) also have to TAKE a larger number of premier models to sell as well. On one hand, that means CX-9s. On the other hand, it means a lot of 8s. Since they all have to sell, at some point, dealers are trying to get as close to invoice to get the 8s out the door.

Besides, they make the money back on the service and the parts!

We narrowly averted a major international incident and all you are worried about is staying on topic???

Take out the word underperforming and I'll agree with your statement.
