ON Rear Brake Rotors

Hey Guys,

I'm in the process of changing my rear rotors but the one item I am missing is an 8.8 Bolt to knock it out (remove) the rotors. I went to Canadian Tires and Part Source yesterday but they were both out. I can get the 8.8 bolt from Prima Mazda tomorrow but since my car is still hoisted, I would prefer to finish this today.

Does anyone have an 8.8 bolt I could use to finish the job?

Please send me a pm if you can assist today. I am in the hwy 50/hwy 7 area. I can get one of my bros to pick it up depending on where you are.

Thanks in advance! :-)

Yep, bang around the rotor with a rubber mallet, it will break lose sooner or later.
Penetrating oil (liquid wrench) sprayed into the studs and around the hud also helps to free them up.

No No -- not just a hammer but a Rubber Mallet
Just to be clear.

I guess if you don't have one you could use a block of wood to rest against the rotor and strike the wood block.

Just go buy one, it's the Christmas season and everything (Can Tire/HH/HD etc etc) is always open.

Why not a regular hammer, if you're replacing the rotor anyway?

Yea if your putting new rotors on then you don't have to be so protective of the old ones.
My quick DIY:
Remove rear calipers and caliper brackets
Remove rotor mounting screw if applicable
put down purse
and hit the rotor form the back until it comes off (turn rotor and hit if needed)

Thanks for all the feedback! After I sent the last reply, my neighbor (who is a mechanic and owns his own shop) saw me working in my garage....asked to see my hammer....took 4 or 5 hard swings and the rotor came off.

He also mentioned that if your replacing an old rotor, using a hammer is fine! New drilled rotors have been installed!!!

Thanks!
