oil cooler line leak
I found a huge puddle of oil in my driveway and took my 2006 rx8 to the Mazda dealer in South Florida, (the car was in NY for the last 3 years and i only have 20,000 miles on it)they say it the oil cooler line and want to charge me $650. I told them i am calling Mazda NA and they said that they will see what happens.
But as of now they are saying its not covered.
This is crazy, they know its a problem and set a precedence with the Canada recall and still do nothing for the USA cars??????

Report it the NHTSA immediately! This board got Mazda to do a recall on the clutch bracket (just got that letter) so don't delay. Make sure to cite the Canada recall info too.

Oil Cooler Recall?
My 2005 RX8 is leaking Oil. I took it into my mechanic and they found rusted out Oil Cooler Lines. This will be $1000.00 to fix. I have read on here that some of you got letters on a recall. When I called my local dealer and Mazda they said my VIN# did not fall under the recall. Any suggestions? Has anyone else found a way around this?

So any update on this?
This weekend, i pulled into the drive losing major amounts of oil. Sure enough, the oil cooler lines are corroded to Hell. My RX has 95K miles on it so Im sure the dealer will just love to see it. Lol.
Ill do it if they will give me the full set of lines and fender liner. I certainly wont pay to tow it there.

Oil Cooler Line Fail
Bump....
My oil cooler line to the drivers side oil cooler rusted out to the point where it is crumbling to the touch.
I have owned the vehicle since 2004, brand new, and currently has 95k miles on it.
My low oil light came on, luckily I did not drive it much beyond that. There was a steady stream of oil flowing onto the ground. I got it towed to the dealer and getting a quote today.
Is the recommendation to replace just the piece from the coupler to the oil coolers on both driver and passengers sides instead of going all the way back to the engine? It is hard to inspect all of the lines, but want to avoid replacing a lines that do not have their integrity compromised to limit the cost.
Also note, this car was driven in southern Virginia and North Carolina with few trips in the snow and salt. I am amazed by the rate of corrosion and failure mode. This appears to be defective.
Any thoughts on how to get Mazda to pick up the tab in the US for this design / performance failure? Another Mazda Fail.

Other fails?....If you look around this forum you will see what I am talking about.
In my case...new engine, new computer, failed heater control, stuck intake valve, water in tail lights mutiple times, shorted brake lights, etc.

are you suggesting that the rx8 has no major issues? or that, just you, haven't had any problems?
I can only speak for myself, but I replaced the oil lines everyone is talking about at 50k miles on my 04. I've been through many plugs/wires/coils. the rear diff exploded at 85k miles. My transmission is raking in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. I replaced my garbage starter motor with a higher RPM one. I had a warranty engine replacement at 60k miles, which is already having hot start issues at 20k miles. My clutch pedal snapped at the hinge and stranded me and my girlfriend, I paid to get it fixed out of pocket, then later mazda paid me back. I know i'm missing some other misfortunes with the car. Don't get me wrong, i love my car. i just wish Mazda would step up to the plate with some of these saftey issues not being recalled in the US.
SO yeah, these cars have problems. The early 04's were of course the worst of the lot.
I went round and round with mazdaUSA, about them paying for the $1,700.00 bill, to no avail. Considering its a HUGE saftey hazard, i can't imagine it wont be on the US recall list eventually.

does anyone know if they do the oil cooler hose recall in Minnesota. We are right next to Canada so i dont see why they would consider it to be a common problem for the cars here as well.
my car is still under 100,000 miles but i bought it used and i am having this oil leak problem and I cant afford much in repairs.

It IS considered a common problem for the northern states. The US did not get the recall however. It means that while it's an acknowledged problem, it's on you to fix, the dealers won't take that financial cost.

Oil cooler hose
My car had the recall done in 2007 my car is a 2006. I had developed a leak in the spring of 2013 went to the dealer regarding this problem they checked to see if the recall had been done, and yes it had. Mazda had replaced the cooler hoses under the recall in 2007 so they would not cover it. Luckily I found a member who had replaced his hoses with the racing beat kit and I bought the lines off of him. The Racing beat kit is $475usd and worth every penny! Here is the link and the part #

Old thread, but valuable info. If you have not had the recall for the oil cooler hoses done on your car there is, according to my local dealer, no time limit. Check your VIN and get it done. Unfortunately for me, they won't do it twice. I didn't think it had been done on my car as I had no paperwork - yes, I got almost everything from the original owner. Even though it was a garage queen and there wasn't a chance of corrosion on the original lines, it had been done. Thanks to Joe, Steve, and Charles for their help in getting me a good set of OEM lines.

Same Problem
Back in October 15' I was returning from a drive I could smell within the vehicle the engine oil which I expected was leaking from the engine. I was only a couple mins from my house so I parked it and noticed oil dripping from under the engine on the driver's side. The next morning I called the dealership and explained the problem, and had it towed to be diagnosed. Turns out I had the exact problem caused by corrosion over time and an oil cooling line had burst. In the end, I had to pay just over $2000: parts - replacing corroded hoses & labour at Mazda.
Since then, I've discovered this recall mentioned on this post. I purchased the my RX8 from its second owner back in November 14', so I don't have the full history of the vehicle, but I assume the recall was never addressed on my vehicle back when the recall was made, and I've wondered why. If there was indeed a recall made in Canada, I'm dissapointed this was never mentioned by the dealership.
What do you think? I'm considering talking to the guys at the dealership about this. Is there anything that can be done/would they do anything for me? (even just the mud guards explained in the recall) It was fairly frustrating discovering the recall after shelling out the money for a significant repair job.

Jeremy, sorry that this was your introduction to your RX8. Take your VIN to your dealer and get the recall history from them. They should be able to tell everything that has been done. I'm assuming, that like mine (post just above) the previous owner had completed the recall and they wouldn't do it a second time. If the recall was not done, then absolutely get the dealer to reimburse you under the recall. That should have been flagged when the dealer entered the VIN.

I finally got the chance to get to the dealer and ask them about the recall. They showed me the records for my vehicle, and it turns out that the issue had been serviced in May 2009, so no luck for me!
