Remote Starter

Remote Starter
I was thinking about getting a remote starter/ Alarm installed on my car and I heard some stuff about how bad it is to get a remote starter installed on a manual car.
Is any of this true?
Does anyone have a remote starter on their car? If so which one?
My reason for wanting a remote starter is i have to drive my car for one more winter before I i have enough cash to buy a decent winter beater.
so if you guys could help me figure out if its a good idea to have one installed that would be great!!
Thanks in advance

Some guys here had a remote start installed on a manual car.
Some shop don't want to install remote start on manual car because of liability reason.
I was planning on installing one on my 8 and I checked Prostart (crappy tire) and was dissapointed the way it works.
There are steps to be followed so you can remote start your car:
1)while the engine running, press the remote
2)parking brake up
3)take out the key(engine will still running)
4)get out the car and close the door.
5)press the locked button on your remote. Engine will stop running.
If you open the door or trunk for any reason, u have to do those steps again.
If you don't mind doing those thing, then you might try to consider it as it is 100% your car is in neutral position before it will start.
And oh, I heard crappy tire won't install it.

One thing I notice on prostart is it doesn't have a connection to your neutral switch.
Others might work differently like the Viper..

I had wired in a mazda unit, it had to modified a little, but it worked. When I was asking a similar question I got flamed big time just for even bringing up the subject of a remote starter on a manual car. I've now owned 11 cars, 9 of them manual and 5 of those have had a remote starter on them. I've also had the habit of leaving my car in neutral, even when I don't have a remote starter installed. If thats a habit of yours then you should be ok. Chances are you aren't going to be able to find a shop to install it for you, like tonik said for liability reasons. If you leave your car in gear without the parking brake on, well you can guess what would happen and thats the reason shops and the flamers don't like the subject, all be it with good reason. With that said you can wire it into your parking park switch so that it the parking brake is not on it won't start. The install is not impossible, it just comes with some responsibility.

Remote starter is fine, I got one installed in August.
I believe all systems require to follow a few steps to set the car in a reservation mode.
Mine is done like this.
1. Leave gear box in Neutral, parking brake up.
2. Turn the key off (I forgot to do that a few times at the beginning.
3. I got 10s to access any doors after I get off the car and close the driver's door. The timer will reset if I open any door.
4. The car will set itself in remote start mode.
It works.
