Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone in Calgary has been able to find a local retailer that sells the royal purple tranny fluid for our cars?

I was trying to decide between RP and Redline and it sounds like the RP is a bit smoother in the cold so for Calgary winters i think that would be the most appropriate.

Also does anyone know a good tranny shop that will swap the fluid when i provide them with what i want to put in? My friend usually takes his car to a place just off mcleod for all his tranny/clutch jobs(i believer they specialize in imports). He basically drives a racing spec RSX and his suspension makes mine feel like butter, lol.

any autoparts plus and sometimes canadian tire has it.....here in kingston auto parts has it most of the time but the odd occasion you have to order it.....I honestly dont trust most garages....so I do the tranny oil changes myself. its very easy to do.

I seem to remember Mopac having them. Check the Tunerworks site ... I know they carry Redline, not sure about RP.

As for tranny shops, people like Import Auto.

I would go with Redline..there have been some potential problems with the RP....It's kinda "sticky"..and seems to shift poorly in the RX-8 tranny

Usually the 75W90 weight is specced, but I find it a little thick for the north.

Their MTL is the thinner tranny fluid, almost like ATF - I mix a quarter to a third in with my MT90 to thin it out a bit, I really like the shifting now.

From Redline - The synthetic base oils used have a very high viscosity index which provides relatively constant viscosity as temperature changes. MTL is a low 75W, almost a 70W, at very low temperatures and a high 80W, nearly an 85W, at elevated temperatures, providing adequate viscosity to prevent wear and deaden gear noise. MT-90 is a thicker 75W90 version of MTL

DONT use rp maxgear!

Been there done that and it was a BAD idea. I use Redline and it fixed the griding I was getting with RP maxgear.

Redline it is, now i will just have to check around to find out who stocks it.

dont order from finishline performance. what seems like really good prices on their web page turns out to be just as expensive as the local shops. and this was in the summer when the dollar was at par.

they only use UPS who charge an arm and a leg for brokerage fees . . .

I am not going to bother doing the diff because i just had that fluid swapped out a couple months ago.

FWIW, I use redline and last year even in -50C it shifted smoothly. This winter doesn't seem to be any problem either, I park in the garage 50% of the time and outside 50% (not sure if this would make a difference, but my garage is insulated and does not feel the effects of the wind so it's slightly warmer inside) of the time depending on if other cars are parked in the garage or not when I get home. (2 car garage with 4 cars ftl =( )

I can't remember if I used MTL or MT-90 I used whatever corresponded to the recommended weight in the owner's manual.

I'd also imagine Partsource, or Canadian Tire would carry it. I saw some last time I was at those stores looking for fluids, but that would of been a long time ago.

No UPS depot and Canada Customs agency near by? I don't mind UPS because a 15 min drive and like 20 min of time allows me to re-coupe all my brokerage fees.

Calgary is a very large city, but I'd imagine they would have some sort of central location for their distribution warehouse.

If you want to ship and save money, USPS/Canada post is the only way...but while I was out in Calgary some chump from the CP distribution center stole the contents of my package, and resealed it...and although Canada Post said they would 'solve' the issue (eventually...after giving me the run around to go to usps or talk to another department, then finally going to the distribution center in person to talk to someone who might give me an answer), 4-5 months later I have heard nothing from them...lucky the Company I dealed with was kind enough to ship me a replacement item free...

Fed-ex uses a scale system, the more an item is worth, the higher the brokerage fee...and I have not figured out a way to broker the item your self, as it seems they don't allow you to do that (they mail out the invoice to you a few weeks later)

UPS at least owns up to their losses (I've never had a problem getting re-reimbursed quickly from them) and you can self-broker saving lots of money =)

Hey guys I am new on the 8 board as I am a 7 owner, but I can't beleive that this discussion has not shifted to speaking about NEO synthetic fluid. It rocks, I have MT90 from Redline in my tranny right now and it is terrible such hard shifting.
