Rust protection for winter

I touched on this subject in my other thread - replacement tires - , but would like to get some other thoughts .
What is a good system to use on the RX8 for rust protection ? I have used Krown spray on my other cars , but this car is special and I do not want to mess it up .
Who uses what to protect their car ?

I got my 8 only 4 months ago and was planning to go for the usual oil composite treatment (sprayed inside fenders etc) but when I noticed that that the previous owner had bought a dealer rustproofing package with a 5 or 10 yr warranty (can't recall) I'd figured I would check with a Mazda dealer before letting them drill holes in my wheels for nothing. Anyone know if there is any point to doing additional rust treatment to whatever I already have.

Been discussed before here. For sure, if you want to drive your car all year round, you need something, we all agree on that. You`ll get different opinions of what that something is though...

I`ve used Rustcheck and Krown lifetimes. They certainly work, but I got sick of the mess and I got too many electrical gremlins that had me wondering if the oil mist was affecting failed electronic parts. $100+ a year adds up too.

So I went with a dealer installed lifetime wax based product, plus undercoat. Heard good things, no mess, no oil mist. $500 one time fee with free annuals sounded good too.

I too, went with the dealer rustproofing/under coat. It seems like a good, no mess formula.

Also, I wouldn't want to drill holes in the car with other systems.

If you get the system through the dealer, bargain as it is a money maker for the dealer. Around 400 would be a good price.

Mind you, sheet metal is getting better and better. If you don't do anything, I wouldn't expect any rust on a vehicle in 10 years. Of course, underbody will rust, but it will rust anyway whether protected or not - exposed metal.

So I called and found out that I don't have to do any additional rustproofing and that only after 5 yrs, I'd have to go back (to the same dealer it was done at) yearly for them to touch-up or whatever....

Mazda does have a rust proof system, however, if you do not get it checked every year they will not honor the warranty. Also you have to go back to the dealer you got the warranty as other dealers will not offer it. I know because I had a small spot of rust on the inside back wheel well that needed to be touched up. I had to go back to Morningside Mazda, which is now Agincourt to get it fixed up.

My 8 was Krowned the first year, and Rustchecked the next 2.

A buddy in Ottawa has a 93 Camry that has been Krowned from day one, parked in a garage, and almost 500k on the clock!

His car looks fantastic, and should be featured on a Toyota commercial. His father still says the big 3 build a better car than the Japanese! Lol.

Ummm.........ok.

I can only hope my 8 will look as good as his camry.

It gives me warm feelings seeing the oily residue seeping from my car.

Canadian Tire sells an electronic gadget called "Counteract Rust Protection System" for $300 (I've seen it on sale for $200). The manufacturer has a web site: http://counteractrust.com/. For this money the claims seem too good to be true. Has anyone had any experience with this product?

I crowned the 8 last winter, and just took it in again today actually. I have krowned all my other cars and they all last pretty well. They weren't messy on the 8 last year so it has worked out pretty well.
