on the way home some guy in an RSX-s was trying to swerve in and out of traffic to catch up to me so he could fly by.........on the outskirts of the city, he pulled up beside me and took off......then slowed down..etc etc.....next time he pulled up beside me we both took off...from 2nd to 3rd I pulled very slightly.....they are quick cars, but the edge is to the 8.....I backed off right away and he kept going......he really wanted to test the 8 out

If sex is bad, why does it feel so good?

If driving fast is bad, why does it feel so good?

Already happened to me but with a Honda Delsol, I saw the the guy laughing at me while he passed me by
I think you were in the wrong gear at 215 KM/hr. I've played around (on the track, of course) with a friend of mine who has a newish Prelude and it was no contest. Unless the Del Sol wasn't stock, there's no way he should have passed you at that speed if you were in the optimal gear.

Our 8's hit top speed in 5th from what I understand... so if you're trying to accelerate to top speed, you should not be in 6th.

I've heard that too, Uber, but I've redlined 5th and went to 6th.

On my way to work yesterday, I was cruising in traffic, staying in middle lane on Hwy 40 going east. Just pass St-Jean blvd, a beautiful pearl white RSX came up to my left, he slowed down and checking me out. He is trying to get my attention and do the pace side by side. In my mind, oh no don’t get caught into this non-sense!!

There are few trailer trucks in front of me, should I wave to tell him to get lost. I lost my mind in a second, accelerated and moved to right lane, squeezed a bit more on the gas quickly switched back to the mid passed the trailer truck from the right and gave it more gas, left to fast lane. And… the fast lane opened up. I saw that opportunity, down shift to 5 kept up the speed, pushed the rpm to 7k, quick shift to 6 and BOOM. A good stretch open highway road from Sources Blvd to Hwy 13. Checked my rear view mirror, RSX is fast, however he is still few car lengths behind me. I saw traffic about 2 km ahead, I hold back a bit, quick check on speedo, 17xkm and dropping. He moved to mid lane thinking he will fly by. Well, the traffic on the fast cleared up, slowly squeeze on gas pedal. The engine is sweet and asking for more fuel. I wanted to test the handling in high-speed. It is very smooth ride and responsive. I do not feel the car is going fast at all if I do not check the speedo. RSX moved back to fast lane behind me. We did fast pace along the way. At this time, we have slower traffic ahead and I have get off at Cote vertu exit. I moved back to middle. He came up side by side. We gave each other a thumbs up and waved goodbye.

I haven't gone past 205 in the 8 yet, but i do know the top speed is attained in 6th gear. Saw a vid on this forum, somebody redlined in 5th, switched to 6 and it kept accelerating

I actually read the owners manual. I'm not 100% sure if I saw it in the book or somewhere else but top speed was 148mph (235-240km/h ish?) (electronically limited)

Nope, it's not limited. There's been people on this board that have been close to 160mph. I didn't believe it either, but they're pretty certain. One guy was on the autobahn.

Holy flippin...I guess its plausible since I'm at about 4k RPM @ 120kph....9.5k RPM would bring you to over 280kph.

It did have a fair amount of pull at 190 which is the highest I've been in mine so its not entirely implausible. Still surprised though.

At one of the autocross I've been to, we managed to sweet talk the organisers at the end of the day. When everyone left, me, another rx8, mazdaspeed miata, and a rsx-S lined up at one end of the airport runway and we did a impromptu race down the other end. The miata beat all of us off the line for about 5 car lengths then the rsx-s started to pull ahead a bit (I didn't really look around while I was flooring it and shifting lol) but down maybe.... like 30-50 car lengths, our 8s pulled ahead of the others :D
but I realise this has become a flame thread..... so yea..... just my 2 cents....
this was done on a controlled (semi-waffle) environment with professional (all waffle) drivers. please do not attempt with your buddy's rsx down No.3 road =P

Heh, I think physics would intervene before we hit 280kph....power needed to reach really high speeds goes up in an exponential curve.

But err, this is an RSX-S thread....so umm yeah...the 8 has a prettier face

there was another vid I saw where some guy video taped his RX8 going 187MPH. I don't know my conversion of miles -> KM but that sounds REALLY fast. Lemme find the link and i'll edit this msg

MrJynx

That's the link, but something seems wrong with this Video. could this have been done on those HP tester thingys (i know the name but i can't remember right now)

Yep MrJynx,

That was dmp doing a dyno, so the wheels were spinning freely. That is REALLY fast, but our engines aren't powerful enough to do that on the road.

i bet for rx8 wins.....coz the obvious hp difference...while i-vtec will gain the horsepower early than rx8.....i think when the 1st and 2nd gear....maybe type-s ll have a little bit more advantages

How about this ? go buy a rsx type s line it up with your rx8 put a brick to both pedals and see which engine will blow first without switching gears?

Speaking of which, did you see that video file of the guy in the white 2nd gen Rx-7 with the car in neutral and the gas pedal floored? He had it buried redline for over 15 mins, water spewing out of the rad, engine temp gauge was buried, and it didn't even blow it just died and slowly reved to zero and shut off. The engine still turned but wouldn't start, thinking the Apex seals blew and he had no compression.

I had the RX8 up to 225km/h I believe I was in 6th gear as I had redlined in 5th, but once I hit 220km/h it was like a brick wall the car would go up 1km/h every 10secs I was covering A LOT of ground to get the speed up.
