Rx8 Stolen!

Rx8 Stolen!
For the love of god. Someone stole my beautiful black RX-8 last night from my secured underground parking in New Westminster, BC. I'm leasing it, and concerned that I might get screwed dealing with ICBC.
Anyone ever had any experience dealing with ICBC? Any tips?
Ugh!!!

Oh no....that's terrible.
If it is secure is there not video tape from the cameras? Have you checked?
I park mine in a secure underground aswell. Had my locked bike stolen but that's nothing compared to the 8...I'd be devastated! How did they get in to the car park? How did they get out? crash through the barrier?

If you're leasing it, ICBC pays out the owner of the car (typically, the leasing company) first. You have to let them know that it's happened, however. In the case of having purchased the vehicle (and you're the owner) you'd get paid out. However, if you have value-protection insurance, ICBC will pay out the ORIGINAL amount that you paid for the car or replace it with a current year model; otherwise, they pay out whatever the depreciated value of the car was.
I'll say it again: stealing an RX-8 is like stealing the Batmobile - you can't exactly part it out, it's such a recognizable vehicle that you can't hide out in it, and so forth...

If you leased your car through Mazda Canada Credit, they will settle with ICBC. Your Mazda Canada Credit lease comes with "gap insurance" which means they will cover anything that ICBC doesnt pay for with respects to paying out the car. If there is payment from ICBC that is above what you owe on the lease, Mazda Canada Credit will pay you that amount. BTW that applies for the rest of Canada as well, all MCC leases have gap insurance at no charge to you!

Thanks for the responses guys.
So i met with ICBC today, basically my lease will just disappear and I'm free to go and acquire a new vehicle fresh. I owed about $5000 more on the vehicle than the payout will be, so turns out Gap Insurance will work out for me.
Sucks big time though. Now I'm conflicted, do I get another RX8? Do I try out something else?
This all of course assumes they don't find my car, which would probably be the worst case scenario since it would likely need some serious repairs and my baby would never be the same.

Glad to hear about the gap insurace. How about contents? I seldom leave my laptop in the car and only have 6 CDs in the changer with no spares in the car so for myself the "contents" loss would be small. Heck, the biggest expense would be replacing the carseat. However, on other occassions (with other cars) I've had more value in the contents than the blue-book value of the vehicle itself.
Did you approach the insurance company about coverage for contents? That should be a completely separate settlement from the value of the car so don't let them bully you about their already eating the gap.

Before I purchased my 8 i was considering a 350z. G35 Coupe, Audi TT, S2000...and a few other Luxury vehicles.
None of them could compare to the ride in the 8.. at least IMO (well maybe the S2000 but no back seats for the ladies!! )

big price differential....
m3 & Caymon S, both are in a totally different price range... But if you have the coin why not!
Mazdaspeed 6 is an impressive vehicle if you ask me and I would definitely consider it...
I am also on a lease which would give me the option of hopefully getting the Mazdaspeed Rx8... if it ever comes out.

If you have the coin and can get by till November or so (rates drop) you can get an open ended lease on a car direct from a "BMW auction" (no dealer mark up) for about 850 taxes in, on 36 months 20k per year. So it is more expensive but well worth it.
However the one you really want is the M3 with the competition packages which is more expensive.
MS6 to an Rx8 however is very different, what do the cars share except the badge? I don't doubt that it is a great deal and a nice car, just seems odd that a person who bought the 8 will go for the MS6. And if you are going for it why not go for the Sti then?
Personally I can only live with rwd.
If I could get out of my lease I would get an open ended lease on M3 with a completion package as soon as the right deal came along.
Good luck (hope they don't find it) and update us on what it is you are getting.

Personally, it's hard for me to believe someone just took an RX-8. It seems far more likely someone he knows got one of his spare keys, but we'll never know unless he brings us The Rest Of The Story.
