^ ummm aren't cruisers tweaked?? Like 300+++HP? But damn they are heavy.

I will have a big smile on my face if I get the chance to pass a cop racing, with no repercussions hehe

hehe i just realized i need to take some good videos of this and post on your tube "rx8 out runs cops"

in all fairness i think the crown vics will take us up top. fastest I've ever seen one go was 240km/h but have herd they can do 260km/h, but we wont be hitting those speeds.

crown vics are one of the last cars to still have a separate frames bodys he's going to have all season tires their is just no way he's going to be competitive in anyway.

will just have to wait till the 26th but im willing to bet say $23? lol jk.

alan was telling me last time we're at shannoville how josh is faster in his rx8 than alan is with his mustang. the mustang has the high performance version the the v8 in question. never mind half the weight on the crown vic. i've seen cop cars go down the 1/4mile aq few times at sparta and they were running mid 15's

it upsets me when rx8 owners have so little faith in their cars. i do believe in being conservative but their is just no way a crown vic willl be anyway near a match for a 8 on this track.
I think your in for a nice surprise when you meet the cop on the straight.

i really don't think i am. its not like we're doing a roll on the highway. I'm going to have the momentum coming off the corners. just a rough example ill be doing 80km-120km where he'll be going from 60-120.

after all this talk it will be interesting to see what happens on the track. if I'm wrong i have no issue admitting my ignorance.

I'm not a track expert and don't want this to seem like I'm some hot shot kid cause I'm certainly not, i just know I've passed faster cars on the track than crown vics.

this is the car we are talking about right, not the new v8 chargers?

^ Passing a faster car just means your a better driver then the person you passed. Doesn't mean your car is faster.

That they will pull you on the straights. That is all I'm saying :P. Obviously the RX-8 will outhandle a reinforced tank.

aww you dont own a 8, that's why you think 8's are so slow a cop's going to pull on them . i'm not going to bother wasting anymore thread space since its pointless since you don't own an 8 and your not even going to the event.

^ LOL, I've driven an RX-8 before and have seen them on the track. The RX-8 has the same drawbacks as every other rotary, that is no torque. I love every rotary vehicle including the FB's, especially the classics like the RX-2's, RX-3's, and even the ballin RX-4 wagon!

I actually did want to come to this rotary event (look at my post on the first page) but I don't think I'm allowed, especially after your comment :P

If I drove 2 hours to Shannonville for the track and couldn't drive I'd cry. Especially since you guys are going to be running the pro track.

hahah... first off... the track days are open to rx8club members first... you don't have to actually own an 8. Just post that you wanna come and if there's a spot you're in. After that it's friends and family...

Second... Nate... the vic will kick our *** on the back straight. Doesn't matter how you look at it.. you'll be going too slow around the hairpin to carry enough momentum to make a difference. The only chance is to build up enough of a gap before the back straight that they can't catch us there (which unless they have a superstar driver, should be possible).

Torque is our flaw... we all know this.. we get around this with stupid amounts of RPM and fligging the car through corners like it was built to do. When you're in a low gear and grinding up through.. that auto will be goin' faster. Other then that bit... the 8 should win. Also... any 8 that's driving with R1's cant be counted on as a true test. Oh.. and if you've ever watched some of those police driving schools and stuff... you'll see that the bloated beast that is a crown vic can actually be made to dance in the right hands

I'm getting giddy just waiting for this...

PS: My buddy's automatic G37S will kill us all :D

g37 i test drove a manual one and was the first car ive ever driven and thought wow that was unexpected.
do you think they will have a portable radar so we can get max speed on the straight? cause i still think there is no way in hell a crown vic will have a higher speed im willing to put my $23 bucks on it. ill even do it with my street tires

You can use my GPS lap timer which records top speeds . I don't think its necessary though since it will be pretty obvious by the end of the day.

Hmm, if there's spots I will come. Can whoever is in charge let me know?

I bought a transmission from Tiger today since I broke my 3rd gear at Mosport last week. Since buying stuff from Tiger is like going to the Casino, I hope I get lucky and all gears work.

PS: Al, you should really bring your race car and I'll bring my trailer

Hey thewird, when'd you migrate here from the 7 forums?

Just a question for you about tiger, are they as bad as the forums say they are?

In my quest to learn everything I can about rotary tuning, I came to the rx8club forums to see how the rx8's are turbo'ing their rotaries and what is being done to overcome the shortcomings of 10:1 compression. And basically how RX-8's are adding turbo's and tuning in general. All this interests me

Well, they are definitely a shady place and I probably wouldn't buy an engine from them. I rolled the dice with the transmission so I hope I come out winning. I fully rebuilt my transmission last year in September and I already broke a gear lol! Damn trannies weren't designed to handle double the stock power being used constantly at the track. I can't afford to rebuild transmissions every few months so I'm hoping Tiger is my cheap transmission depot since I'm just gonna break them anyway (I really don't care if they make noises as long as it shifts properly into all gears)

Lol.. I know what you mean about the G37... seems like such a big car but god can it move. Was driving it back from the cottage once and went to pass like 5 cars that were rolling under the limit.. tapped the gas a bit.. didn't even really feel like I was accellerating.. by time I passed everyone I looked down at the speed and was a bit shocked.

hahah... to be honest I'm not sure if the cop will want to have much to do with us... but if he is willing to play around a bit that would be cool. I just can't be bothered to take my eyes off the road when driving to truely see how fast I'm going.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any spots for this session.. unless someone bows out in the next week or so... just keep your eyes open on this post.

After reading this page of this post all I can say is .............WOW! Some of you havent figured out one basic thing, the driver is more important than the car. I learned that in 1981 at a track called Westwood in BC. I had a 430 cu.in or for you youngin's 7.1 litre V8 Trans-Am and got my *** handed to me by a 60hp Volkswagen Rabbit that was stock. It took me 2 years to catch that VW. If you put an advanced driver in the Crown Vic and a 1st timer in the RX8 the Vic will lap you. If its the other way around the Vic doesnt stand a chance. When you take street cars at Mosport that are modified way more than our race car and have
100+ horespower on us, they are still 2 seconds a lap slower, yet I could put a pro driver in my own car and find out I'm 2-3 seconds slower in the same car. Point of this is................stop the bench racing and learn to driver your own car to its limits. Most of you are doing quite well, but your still 3-4 seconds off what your cars are capable of in their current form. Each of you will have a different learning curve, some will get there faster than others. Just go out and enjoy the ticket free.... drive as fast as your comfortable.... ride!

^ couldn't have said it better myself.

Need more proof? The "ringer" in our AutoX events in Ottawa is a Saturn Wagon! He sweeps through nearly a hundred competitors in S2Ks, Mini Cooper Ss, STIs, Speed Miatas, etc. The guy is a ridiculously good driver.

I on the other hand need a ton of practice so I am really looking forward to getting on a track with some good instructors!
