SCCA World Challenge Mosport
Hi everyone!
Thought I'd pass this along as a fellow Mazda owner.
The SCCA World Challenge series (formally Speed World Challenge) is rolling into Mosport on the May 21st weekend.
Race 1 goes at 2:50pm on Saturday the 22nd
Race 2 goes at 12:45pm on Sunday the 23rd
(see here: http://www.world-challenge.com/files...20Sch%20V2.pdf)
As an added bonus this year, the folks at World Challenge Vision (the group that promotes the series) are running a "Manufacturers Fan Championship"
(see here: http://www.world-challenge.com/news/...php?story=1558)
So why am I posting this on the RX-8 forum? Well, there's a new RX-8 team in the touring car ranks. (see here: http://www.meyer-motorsports.com/Home/Home.html)
I don't know the guys at Meyer, however I may have a contact to them through another Mazda owner in the US.
Is anyone interested in attending, and schmoozing with the guys at Meyer?
I'm going to cross-post this on my own club's site (Toronto Mazda 6 club) and the Toronto Mazda 3 club to see if we can generate some interest.
Thanks for looking!
-Steve

It would be great to have a solid Mazda presence for both races (especially you RX-8 folks ). I'm likely going to make it to one of the races, as family stuff will be keeping me busy otherwise.
However, even if a few people show up, stop by their hauler and say hi (if they're not trashing away on the car).

Mosport Car Corral
Are you aware there is a car corral at Mosport for the SpeedFest.
World Challenge has been working hard with car enthusiasts to offer meet-and-greet opportunities with the race drivers and their teams, as well as paddock visits, special merchandise and sponsor giveaways, etc.
The Mosport SpeedFest Corral is a special VIP Hospitality package that includes three-day admission to the event, a private chalet with trackside hospitality and exclusive reserved parking for owners of corral-featured cars. The Corral will also include tech talks, driver appearances, prizes, an opportunity for a parade lap around Mosport's famous four-km road course and Sunday bar-b-q lunch for $100 per person.
For Mosport SpeedFest, the schedule will include:
SCCA Trans-Am Series
Speed World Challenge GT
Speed World Challenge Touring
Canadian Castrol Touring Car Championship presented by Toyo Tires
Sundown GP

No I hadn't! I did, however, receive an email from the SCCA yesterday with a pdf describing the details (see attached pdf).
I think I'll drop them a line to let them know there is some local Mazda owner interest. I'm not totally sure how it all works (when is the pace lap being held, where the corral will be, etc), but hopefully they can clear it up.
Corral passes are $100 for the whole weekend. Anyone interested?

Corral update
Regarding the Corral ... it will be in Turn 1 which is across from the Start/Finish line. There is parking for the Acuras, Vipers, Porsches, Corvettes, etc.
I don't have the formal program as yet and it depends how many members of each mark are attending. There will be tech talks in the Corral and visits to some of the padocks to those interessted on Saturday. If there is a group from your club, something will definately be arranged. There will also be draws for swag and a bar-b-q lunch on Sunday. I haven't been told when the parade lap willl be but will be happy to let you know as soon as a schedule has been put together. I will be volunteering at the Corral and paddock.
This year World Challenge is initiating the Sports Car Wars. The program rewards fans for their enthusiast support of their favourite cars, teams and drivers. While volume of fans play a role in the decision, how fans celebrate their brand is important. Activities that will be part of the decision include the March to the Grid by fans leading up to the grid for pre-race ceremonies. There will also be enhanced post-reace celebrations. Each race's winning fans will be highlights in a segment during the WC TV broadcast on Versus. So wear your favorite club shirt, or team/driver shirt and be sure to bring your sports car out to the race.
If you need further info, contact me at janetandnick@cogeco.ca or contact Dave Drimmie, VP, Marketing & Communications

Sounds like a plan Dave. Good call.
Guys, I am at your disposal.
Here are a few things that come to mind that we've done in the past that may be of interest to some of you. Feel free to add and offer anything of value and I'll do my best to incorporate it into the weekend.
Random ideas:
-One of our crew guys and co-driver in Grand-Am is Jay Andrew. Jay is a big time Hawk brake distributor. He knows a TON about brakes, brake compounds and the RX-8 brake system. I'll ask him to put on a tech talk he can probably score some Hawk Swag.
-Marlon---are you coming to this?
-Motec data acquisition review on the big flat screen
-We've installed quick release pins on the driver side doors to facilitate helping people in and out of the car. Car chief Eric Arms coordinates this. Stop by and we can make this happen.
-Probably the biggest thing that YOU GUYS can help us with is spreading the word on our charitable cause: Samaritan's Feet. At the St. Pete race followed by the Long Beach race we had race fans, officials, fellow racers, Mazda execs and everyone inbetween sign our hood which we letter gave away. We did this with custom autographed helmets, race jerseys, cases of XOWii (zow-wee) and rides in our car (temporary passenger seat currently getting installed)
I think you'll find that we have a very open door policy with race fans with Mazda fans getting the VIP treatment and fellow RX-8 owners getting the triple VIP deluxe super special treatment.
Let me know how I can help. See you at the track.
Eric
PS---you guys have to meet Dave Drimmie. Super great guy. Dave is looking to grow the march to the grid big time. Plan on joining us for this.

As for Marlon, I *think* he's coming. I'll send him an email and point him at this thread.
Only two weeks to go! And I hate to say this, but we have "wet snow" in the forecast for tonight Think warm thoughts, gentlemen...

Sounds like quite an RX8 contingent heading for the track. If anyone is interested in the Corral (shelter from the elements, bar-b-q lunch on Sunday, large screen TV of track coverage), you should order your tickets as soon as possible in order for the track to reserve a large enough tent and let the caterers know as we are less than 2 weeks out.
We had about 50 people in the Corral last year and hope the event grows every year. Tom Hnatiw, the World Challenge announcer, will make a visit to the Corral and he always regales the participants with his stories.

Thanks Janet. Smart planning = more enjoyable race.
Might you know of a good pub in the area for after the race cocktails? Something old and nostalgic that the race teams hang out is preferred.

I am trying to check with my contacts in the East End for pubs near Mosport. If you hear of anything, please let me know as we have a group from NY and Detroit staying out in Port Perry for the August ALMS race.
Will let you know what I find out.
