Seen a few 8's at PITL, anyone from here?

PITL = Push It To the Limit. Its an autocross event held at Hershey Centre in Mississauga. I think the organizers used to be RX-7 club but I think it's now Mazda club or something. IMHO the event is too busy now what with over 100 cars these days.

I no longer race there because of the number of turn outs. At one event I had like 3 runs only. It was really frustrating. Some of the events that I like are the Corvette Club ones held at the GO stations at Oakville. It's more expensive (weeds out the hardcore and newbies) but the course is awesome, lots of space to run around vs. the Hershey Centre where the curbs are make for tight course layouts. And you can count on fun runs after. Whereas with PITL, by the time it's done it's way into 6pm...There's always the HADA events at the Brampton Hockey Rink on Kennedy Rd. It's great because the HADA members perform marshalling so you just sit around and chat without having to marshall. Although Marshalling is quite fun because it gives you the opportunity to watch how other cars run at various points. And it's a good way to make friends too.
Anyhoo now that I've moved to Vancouver, I do miss those events. Not a whole lot except for the UBCC and VCMC events at BB airport.... which is kinda far from where I live.

3 runs all day?
Sounds like a yawn fest to me.
What does that amount to in actual seat time? 5-6 minutes?
So you spend all day, bring your R-compound tires, spend the better part of 1 hour swapping tires, adjusting pressures, for 5-6 minutes?
This is FUN?
I just don't understand. Kind of like the 1/8 mile drags. Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Even a 1/4 mile drag is kind of useless. Especially with 8's - I mean really what is the point in it? The 8 is not that kind of car.
The whole purpose of a driving event is to actually - wait - DRIVE!
I have only done one autocross event - and that was 3-4 runs in the span of a couple hours, not a full day.
If there is almost ZERO risk of writing off your car then what thrill is that?
4 wheel drift @ 160 is where it's at. Children need not apply.

Basically it. It was so bad that the wait b/t runs was about 90 minutes. I mean you can easily begin to forget the course layout. Not to mention the tires are cold again. This is my opinion of PITL series not other autoX events. I hope the 8 is good at this event otherwise i'm trading it in for an mx-5.
If you want full adrenaline rush, do winter rally. I've done a few with my subaru before and it was non stop action fun. 250km in 5hrs! That excludes driving to the destination. Lots of real drifting not around some dry parking lot.

delhi - Winter rally? Now that would be fun. Got a talon that is rusting outside that would have been perfect. I would just be afraid of breaking the thing and being out a few thou to fix it. You has to pays to plays as they say.
Add another event that I just don't get - car shows. I mean really, what is the whole point? These people spend thousands of pesos to build up a car for show that makes them basically un-drivable.
qtwre - Track guy? Not really - rally is more my thing. Track driving just isn't as exciting as rally driving. Not that I have done it other than video games, and some drifting on public gravel roads that the po po doesn't take too kindly to. The great thing about track events though is that it is the best venue to explore the limits of the car we purchased and drive daily in a relatively safe environment in situations that somewhat mimic the road.
Autocross driving does not in any way or form resemble the type of driving you do on the road. Does it make you a better driver? Possibly. Do you learn car control? Sure.
Loose the back end of the car at 140kph and see if all those 2nd gear autocross courses were of benefit.
Sure I can drift a car in the snow and on gravel - does that mean I am a competent drifter on asphalt?
Totally different disciplines.
Can I admire and appreciate the skill of each - sure. Doesn't mean I want to take part.
WRC and SCCA rally is where it's at. Especially NA rally where the cars are essentially free from HP limits, and they don't get to pre drive the routes. Talk about insane.
