Shopping for a 2006+ RX8

Hello everybody,

my name is Francesco, I am an engineer living/working in Toronto.

I am currently shopping for a car, and as my wife and I are progressively converging on the idea of purchasing an RX-8 I wanted to ask the experts about places where I can find some good ones and places to definitely avoid...

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Frio

Hey there...

Honestly I'd recommend sticking with a Mazda dealership. Some of the used car places are alright, but others are absolute crap (ie the one I bought from) and you can garantee that the used car dealer knows pretty much nothing about the rotary engine and how to properly maintain it (higher chance that they've flooded it or done something stupid).

Someone asked a simular question acouple days ago on what to look for when buying a used 8. I'd recommend that you check that post out as well.

What's your engineering background? Just curious.

HEVNSNT: Software engineering, I work for a fairly large software company doing research on high performance and parallel computing.

All: Thank you very much for the advice, I will try to stick to dealerships.

I checked on Trader.ca and I found a few; some of them are being sold by a Ford dealership in Mississauga, one is at Ajax Mazda and another is at a Honda dealership in Whitby/Oshawa.
Would a Ford dealer be ok too in your opinion?
And how about the Honda dealer? I know they would not know the car, but would they be any less or more shady than the used car places?

Cheers,

Frio

I think any dealer or private seller is fine as long as you do your carfax and carproof thing and it can be very helpful to take it to an experienced mechanic or Mazda dealer for a good inspection before finalizing the deal. The Mazda service dept can tell you all the repairs that have been done and if the recalls were done in a timely fashion or you can also call Mazda customer service with the VIN to find out about this.
