Should I buy it
Hi.
I am right in the middle of getting a 2005 RX8
Automatic, with 56k
All was wonderful until I started reading the net, with the horror stories of no starts and flooding and replacing engines.
So, I ask... should I buy it.
I dont mind checking the oil, or premium fuel.
I have been told to hold the key on while starting and to rev to 5k and shut of when stopping.
I like the car, but to be honest, I am a bit concerned.
Thanks
RD

20 k for the car
Auto is for wifey and kids.
just want it as a summer car. I know this sounds strange but its to save some gas.
I can say that because compared to my H@ it is better.

I bought my 04 RX-8 with 33500km for $19k in Feb. The thing about the 8 is that it's like a high maintenance girlfriend. In terms of gas, it's gonna be better than your Hummer for sure. But I don't think anyone here would recommend the 4 spd auto (4 port). Not only is it down about 40hp compared to the manual, but the does seem to be more reliability issues than the stick as well. You can definitely find better deals out there if an auto is a must. I suggest checking out private sales if you're looking to save money. Don't worry too much about ShinkaTeen's view of pricing since he's in the US and our cars are always more expensive :P
You can always import a car from the US to save money. It's just a matter if you want to deal with the paperwork.
As for issues like flooding, just make sure the car is always at operating temperature before you turn it off. Yes, that means no starting, moving to driveway and shutting it down. I've yet to flood my engine, and it isn't too much of a pain for me. As long as you're careful and treat the car as it was meant to be treated you'll be fine. Check your oil often, keep a spare bottle in the car, and rev it hard. Remember, "a redline a day keeps the carbon away."

and you live in the States...Why don't US members see that the pricing is different outside of the US? There's a whole world outside of the red, white and blue...and im pretty sure he's talking about kilometers instead of miles seeing as how this is in the Canada forum...

Thank you all for your input.
The cost of the car is not a real concern.
I am not sure the HP is a concern either, remember I am comparing this to my tank.
All I really have an issue with is if you take some of the threads on here and other places at face value. I will be in the shop once a week and have 3 new engines by Christmas. If it is a matter of learning how to start, stop, and checking the oil for trouble free driving I am good. but I still think I will get the extended warranty. Even though Mazda has extended the warranty on the engine. to 8/160.
I still have 2 years left on the PT warranty.
Any other comments would greatly be appreciated.

Obviously there are the exceptions where people have bad experiences. But in general, I don't think us members in Toronto have had too many issues with our cars.
