About rick
Had the chance to meet Rick in person, very cool guy. I want to take the opportunity to thank you again for letting me be a speaker at the conference. I had a fun time with all of you guys. Please, keep me posted about new events and news. Take care and hope to see you around.
P.S. Hey, I found out what the brakes problem was, the rotor was not making perfect contact with the hub
, so under load the rotor would shake and make that horrible noise. Install the original brakes and now it works fine! :D

Hey Luis;
Thanks again for speaking at our annual conference! I've gotten a lot of positive feedback about our discussion of race-car set-up; people seemed to really enjoy it.
Glad to hear you figured out the brake problem; that was a strange one!! Was the top-hat machined wrong, making it seat improperly?
Rotten;
No, I was in a silver e36 M3.....still debating whether to trade it in on a new 8. I've raced various rotary powered cars going back all the way to 1979, hence my interest in the new 8.

That was me. I was carpooling to the south. Funny as I was leaving and another Red 8 entered the lot. I've been all over lately, from Sundance to Rocky Ridge to Signal Hill. Somewhat of a gypsy I suppose. Haven't seen many 8's of late.

If that was about 8:20, that would have been me.

Hi everyone. Just checking in.
I've been reading here off and on but just registered.
Looks like there's a few on here from Calgary - cool!
I bought my Red-1 last December 28th (yeah, just before New Year's). It was kind of a Christmas present for me and my wife. We love the car.
Gas mileage has improved recently too. If yours still sucks, go to the dealership and ask to install the new computer program. They installed the program after my RX8 engine flooded itself and wouldn't start.
My mileage went from about 350-360 / tank to about 380-390 / tank within 2 weeks (after the new program learned my driving habits). I usually get it down to about 7-8 liters in the tank, so this works out to an average of about 13.5 L / 100 km. Not great but acceptable for a sports car!!
I'll see you all around.

This was done at Sunridge Mazda but can also be done at any other dealership.
This was a warranty issue. I think Mazda will do this for anyone who has flooding problems. They did it for me when my car wouldn't start and had to be towed.
I don't believe any of this is official - perhaps they are trying to avoid the word 'recall'. You may want to call one of the dealerships and find out about it.
If they say they won't do it unless you have problems, then it's really easy to flood an RX8. Just crank the engine a few times w/o starting it. Once it's flooded, call roadside assistance and they'll have to change the program.
The new program has greatly improved my fuel mileage within 2 weeks. Not sure if you've seen the other thread but I would say anywhere from 40 - 50 km per tank.
I've read that the computer in the RX8 is supposed to learn your driving habits. For some reason that has never really happened with the first program. On the other hand, I've heard that if you disconnect the battery (for a few minutes) and connect it back up, it may fix the problem, i.e. you may get the computer to start learning. Not sure if it's true or if the original program was capable of it or if it was faulty (it's supposed to learn).
The other benefit was that the car starts much better now. Usually on the first crank.
Either way, you have some options. If you think your gas mileage is crap, check into this - it may help!

Just thought I'd comment since I don't log in here much. I'm one of the few guys on the road with the following package:
-front air dam
-front strakes
-rear side flares
-rear guards
-front and rear rotary accents
-NO rear spoiler
-dark tint on back and rear passenger windows
I work in the NE and live in the SW so you'll see me on Macleod, Deerfoot, 32nd Ave, 16th Ave, Barlow trail.
I usually get on Macleod from Glenmore then hit Heritage.

Literati ... you must work near my area. I'm at Franklin Mall and always take 32nd Ave home (but in the opposite direction).

You may see us on Deerfoot and Barlow as I work in the SE off of Glenmore and live deep south. Nice to see another 8 on the road.
Happy Holidays.

Thank Voytek!
I am not sure do my 8 have bad gas mileage, my first tank of gas only last 328km at 54L, but my second tank of gas which I filled today last me 370Km at 51L, so I see some improvment and I drive my car mostly in city.
Anyways, can anyone tell me more about the computer in Rx8 capable of learning the driver's driving habits.
thanks

Sightings today:::at around 3PM-ish
Titanium in the parking lot of the Great Canadian Stupid Store 130 Av SE@ Deerfoot
Vel Red at the lights on the same road going eastbound (maybe heading into Safeway or Mckenzie Town?
My daughter tells me there's a Tit on Mckenzie Lake Island...
I was in my Expedition so a wave would have been fruitless. My daughter was driving and pointed both of them out to me (I was more concerned with her driving than looking)...
$200 of wine, rum, rye, GM, coolers, licquers(sp?).... it's gonna be a forgetful (but fun) holiday season methinks....

I've seen this car a couple of times. A black 8 in Rocky Ridge. You better not live there, I was here first and there is only room for one RX8 :D
