Sightings Thread for Calgary

hah I think i'm driving this thing to the ground (especially w/ the new engine warranty) so noo rush. I'm having a huge dilemma on the spoiler though. my Body shop said it the drilled holes will start rusting in a few years and might cause water leakage, which is not good since i'm planning on driving my 8 for years to come. On the other hand I can just get a lip spoiler but i dont think it will look as good... hmm spoiler or no spoiler

Hey fellas,
I'm new to the forum - and to Calgary, but I'm wondering if there are any meets (etc...) upcomming. I ran into an 8 owner the weekend and it was good to have a chat about stuff.
Cheers,
Phil

Welcome to the club phillip. You JUST missed our meet (well it was 3 weeks back). But I think that we'll probably have one mid summer or some of us may be attending the Mazda in the Mountains. What are the specs on your 8?

right on. well I'll try to make the next one - although hopefully it doesn't fall on the same weekend as the edmonth GP!
my 8 is a stock '04 BB GT. bougt it at the end of the summer last year and have just fitted with new tires. I'm looking forward to some good mountain driving. Have you hit HWY-1A much? any routes you like in particular?

i kept seeing lots rx8 these days, and the titainum gray one that i saw on 4th ave SW by the entry to the bridge yesterday waved at me but when i waved back, he was already at least 50m away.
yesterday afternoon, i raced my buddys bmw 335 xi on university drive; i knew some of 8 drivers dont like drag race but it was fun to race with that ride. I thought i shifted perfect and gas pedal down to the bottom, but i still lost by at least a car. by the end, he let me drive his car. i could clearly feel the push from the driver's seat and turbo started to boost at even lower than 2k rpm. that thing is powerful. I wish one day mazda will make a rotary powered car just as fast as that.
and today, there was a miata meet right on university drive. there was a black 09 rx8 shown. I didnt take a picture cuz i was at work. it might look not as good as our old version rx8 on the picture but if u actually see it, its just beautiful.
when is gonna be the next rx8 meet? i just installed my tein coilover myself few days ago, wanted to feel it on mountain road. but its pretty bad that one of my rims is broken so i have to wait for a new one coming, so that i can use the better tires that i had with this set of rims.

Does anyone know if Mazda In The Mountains is cancelled for this year? I read that the organizer is not in anymore so not sure if there's someone else taking over? Oh well, we should have another meet anyway. Perhaps somewhere in the city for some ice cream or something!
