..And so it begins...
Hi Everyone!
I'm the proud new owner of a 2004 Winning Blue GT officially taken home today!
I've been lurking on this board for nearly half a year now and tried to take in as much info as possible. I think if it wasn't for this board, I wouldn't have even bought the car.
About me:
-I'm 26 yrs old.
-I'm from Calgary, Alberta (NE area)
-This is my FIRST Car purchase ever. (Ya, ya...I know..)
-This is my FIRST Sports car.
-This is my FIRST Rotary
-This is my FIRST rear wheel drive
-This is my FIRST manual car (I'm still learning how to drive stick)
About the car:
-6 sp MT
-No navigation system
-5000 km
-Front Air Dam
-Spoiler
-Side Skirts
-Rear under deflectors
I'm more nervous than excited at the moment because of these reasons, but I bought this car as a test to myself and to challenge myself in ways I've never done before. I think this 8 will provide a most definite challenge for me!
I'm looking forward to being a proud member of this forum and indulging in the valuable information every is willing to share.

Alright .. you finally got it. did you figure out how long it took you to make the deal with the dealer? 6 months? Ha ha.
Bet you're going to spend the next couple of nights in an empty parking lot eh?

Congratulations Admiral8. Just so you know I was in the same situation 6 months ago

I was nervous driving a stick in traffic for a few weeks and I still get a little nervous if I stop on a steep hill. Once I got comfortable its a lot of fun.

Congrats on your car man!!! At least it's not screwed up like mine!! Damn, I'm pissed... I can't even get my deposit back cuz the sales manager wasn't in for the past few days. But 5000km? Can I ask how much did you paid for it? Hey, I'm 27.. so we're all pretty close in age! Hehe... I'm thinking that if I can't get an RX-8 (this has been my 2nd attempt.. the first being lack of funds in '03), I might get an Acura TSX or TL. Yeah, I know its a big difference in cars... but I figure it may be more practical and will last me 10 years without problems. The Mazdaspeed RX-8 was really my dream car, but we'll see what happens...

BlueFrenzy: Ya, 6 months sounds about right. =)
If the weather holds out, I'll be doing "granny" donuts in the parking lot for sure...Woohoo! Just gotta find a nice big open lot first.
1st-car: ..that's the plan. I'm hoping nerves/fear will turn into FUN, FUN, FUN!
Slow-Lude: I feel for ya man. I'd be pretty choked about it too.
After reading your post, I was very worried about what my car was gonna look like. ..
Upon my inspection, the car is is very good shape (at least from what I can tell).
I paid a bottomline of $40,5 .
A guy from my work owns a Acura TSX. Nice car. I've ridden with him many times, you can't go wrong there. Trying to compare the two is like apple and oranges IMO. Each have pros and cons. Your right though, it's definitely more pratical than the 8.
Right now, just worry about getting your deposit back. There will always be an 8 out there waiting for you. =)

So I test drove the TSX and TL today... all I can say is that the TSX reminded me of my old Prelude, but with 4 doors and costs $36,000... so there's no point in getting that car. The TL is $41,000 and that thing is a freakin' monster on wheels. 270hp and the interior is really gorgeous!! Too bad I look like I'm driving my dad's car in that thing, but it is really worth the price. Same as the RX-8 price, but with substantial increase in quality and power. The problem is that I'll never have the love and passion of the TL as much as the 8. Damn... that's a hard decision. Do I take sensibility over passion?

got a quick tip for gettin goin on a hill...
1. pull e-brake
2. slightly engage 1st gear with clutch(so you can feel it trying to pull)
3. drop e-brake
you will never roll back.. one of the "actual" uses for an e-brake. other than sliding of course
good luck!

add another to that list. I bought mine last Feb, 1st car, 1st sports car, 1st standard, and 1st RWD.
And its Blue!!!
I guess we arent so rare.
And im 28
my basic thought was I wasn't going to buy a car unless it's brand new, and something I will be happy with for a long time... so far.... one year with the 8 now, and still happy as can be.
So, welcome to the family of first time owners witha blue

Weird how our age group all picked blue. I think it must have been something in the water when were kids that somehow gave us superior taste in color.
Admiral, have you driven the car since we have such nice weather lately.

Wow, that is really strange.....hmmmm, I wonder if there is any correlation with age and preference in color choices for the RX8?
Thanks for the tip Nubian! That never occured to me, but it sounds like it will work pretty good.
Hey BF! I have managed to finally drive the car around. I've stalled it about 4-5 times already....man, parking this thing is really tricky! =) Once you get going though, it feels sooo nice.
