Someone Tried To Steal My 8 ....!!
Before I even bought it lol ...
It's been a helluva ride trying to purchase this car. Finally got all the paper work and financing hurdles taken care of on Wednesday. Thursday dealership calls me and says they lost the ownership !! so it will take a few extra days for delivery
I stop by today in an attemp to light a fire under their ***, *** I'm waiting for the manager I take a peak inside the car and notice a piece of plastic sitting on the floor..I ask the manager to open it up to see what it is. We open the car and to my horror notice the entire steering column has been torn off and the fuse box was also ripped apart with wires and pieces everywhere. Turns out someone tried to steal the car over the long weekend but couldn't get past the immobilizer. The power will come on but the engine will not turn over, there's a blinking warning light in red with a pic of the car and a key (I imagine this is normal when someone trys to steal the car)
So now it needs to be towed to Mazda for repair, and I imagine it will take some time for them to get the plastic to replace the steering column...they said they should have the ownership by tomorrow and they will be able to deliver the car to me minus the plastic around the column and when plastic comes in a few weeks from now I'll bring it back. I was supposed to be driving it LAST WEEK !!!!
I'm going to ask for a free window tinting at the very least, and the ignition has a small gouge in it from them prying on it with a screw driver....all I can say is they better not think i'm accepting the car like that,...when I signed the papers it was mint and that's the way I expect it to be when I pick it up.

Well i'm stuck between a rock and a hard place .... This is the only 8 they've got and they gave me an amazing deal to say the least.
I plan to take in on a good long drive and test EVERYTHING out before I actually accept the car. I will also demand the manager makes out a deal that if down the road anything else goes wrong with the car due to it being hacked up that they will repair it free of charge.
All I can do is hope it doesn't take too long to get the plastic in to replace the steering column and fuse box.

it's not a Mazda dealership ....it's a Toyota dealership (bel-air in Ottawa)
This was a brand new lease from Mazda of Canada, and it was an older guy (51) who drove it. He drove it for a yr (stored for winter and only 10k km's) and decided he wanted a Toyota Rav4 instead. Toyota bought out his lease and decided they would keep it and sell it.
It's a 2004 Ti Grey GT with a premier alarm and auto-start. It was taken into Mazda this morning for repairs and once they're done it will go to an after market shop to have the alarm and auto start repaird/replaced.
This car should be priced up at around $35k , and I'm taking it for $29,5 and for all my trouble I'm pushing for a free window tint and full tank of gas ...which at todays rate the tank of gas is almost worth as much as the car
input ???????? keep in mind I want this car more than anything .....ever lol

even at that price I wouldn't buy it. If you wait just a little bit longer i'm sure you can pick up a new '05 for a little bit more money. plus you get an untainted car and can guarentee you break it in properly
try and break out of the contract and get your downpayment back. If they can't secure your vehicle on their lot then that should be enough reason to get out of it..

In that case, I would say hold back some final payment or final signature until you are completely satisfied with their repairs. No car stays perfect forever so just demand discount or compensation (as you are) for the delay and the fact the car is now damaged and repaired. They'll just claim the cost against their insurance or cover it as "overhead".
Just be sure to maintain some leverage over them to insure they complete the repairs and do quality work. They won't fix it to 'do the right thing', they'll fix it to get the sale. If you make all the payments and sign all the forms they'll have the sale and you'll get no more service.
Just my $0.02.......

That's downright scary . . . I don't know if I would take that car. I had the dash of an Audi completely shredded once in my driveway by morons that didn't know you could remove a DIN radio in about 10 seconds with a bent coat hanger and save a LOT of effort. One damaged part I never got, I just gave up after a couple months of waiting for some guy wearing lederhosen to carve the part out of a giant block of plastic somewhere in Germany. The missing part may never arrive . . . You also have no idea how many little plastic tabs and stuff are busted off under there that they will simply ignore. Things could rattle, become over stressed and break or connectors could fall out etc. Then there is the issue of splicing wiring if that is required and what sort of skills the person has that's doing it. The work is being done at a Mazda dealer but that's not saying much, there are two of them in Ottawa that I will never step foot in again. The car is still under warranty but this stuff might be treated like "accident" of modification damage and not be covered if there are problems. Once the car is off the dealers lot, the problems are your problems despite their claims of being nice guys or agreeing to follow up.
As we speak there is a car on trader.ca for 33K, same model and colour, less mileage and a private sale. You then save the GST so there is only a deference of about 1.5K and that's at the asking price. Who knows if there is anything wrong with that car but assuming it's pristine I would take it for a few bucks more than a car that's known to have been trashed.
Another 2 cents worth . . .

I concur with the other sage voices in the group - just forget about the car, and move on. It's not worth the hassle of the possible mechanical and electrical gremlins that can occur after a car has been broken into, and even if you hold back some of the final payment (assuming that you can get the bank/financing to go that way), the dealership has sold you the car, and you assume that a Toyota dealer will really care that much about how well they got your Mazda fixed.
The sad truth is that the automotive business is simply that- a business. Despite your passion for cars, and your perceptions as to what is right and what ought to be done, the bottom line rules all.
Tinting and a full tank of gas is small peanuts compared to the MSRP of the car (or the price of this vehicle in question). They'll give you the tint and gas, and take your money, and you'll be left with a questionable repair.
