SOOO who got stuck??

I was all good, love my snows and DCS. You just hit the gas and it does the rest lol.

But when I started my car up tonight after sitting all day, it reved really high at first 3500rpm, then did the drop rpm then up high again. Did that for prob 30sec's ish. High low high low. I left it, and did nothing and it worked its self out. It always work's its self out, but it's weird. Anyone else have this happen?

Wondering if it's the CAI, cause I swear that never happened before I got it.

I didn't feel the need to move the car after helping people into/out of my street for about five hours today. Great exercise though...

I tried my hardest to get stuck all over mississauga and Etobicoke on unplowed roads. No luck!

But man, my girlfriends SX4 with the 195/65R15 nava snow tires is awesome. It could drive through 2 feet of snow and not even notice it.

didnt get stuck. i love my yoko iceguards. great tire. the old style iceguard though...havent tested the ig10 or ig20 yet. it took three sessions with the snowblower to clear out my driveway. I have a huge driveway, and what better way to spend an afternoon off than clearing snow. Still, the car did great in this crap. not bad on ice, starts every time no problems...so far...lol. seeing now how liveable my 8 is in the winter is making me not regret not getting a WRX like i originally planned.

Me...5 times at about 2pm first in the Square One area, then near my home. Car kept getting beached and I plowed everything with the front appearance package spoiler - damn 17's with 45's - I loose about half an inch in ride height (wasn't thinking). Where were the freak'n plows???

Had 3 different strangers push me in Mississauga (feel bad 'cause I never got the chance to say thanks), then 6 neighbours had to push me down my whole street to get to my house (got Timmy cards for all of 'em).

I was out in my wife's SUV tonight helping others, makes you feel good to see everyone helping...

Merry X-mas all!

Damn man that sucks! Get some good winters! 17x55 will give you the extra height. I have the appearance package as well it sure doesn't help lol.

Good stuff about everyone else!!

marc, i would think this might have something to do with the intake...could be covered in alot of snow...maybe the air coming in is just too cold on start up and the MAF isnt reading right because of it. hotwire mass air flow sensors work by supplying enough current to the wire to keep it at a certain temp and calculating from the amount of current supplied to determine how much air is flowing. it also factors in air temp (and thus density) from this. maybe with the CAI the air is just flowing in there too fast and cooling the MAF, making the engine think its getting more air than it should so it pulls the throttle back, then the revs drop so it gives more throttle and cycles like that until its warm enough to come down off the high idle. I know not everyone with a CAI has this problem, but its just a guess.

question though, so it constantly revs up and down for a bit or it just revs up and down a few times before it settles? when i start mine, i put the clutch in, start it up, wait for a second and let the clutch out (in neutral of course). the revs always drop when I let the clutch out when its this cold. its a bit of work to turn the input shaft when the gear oil is that cold. usually starts up and hits about 3500. then i let the clutch out and it drops to like 2500. on occassion it will jump back up to 3500 after the initial drop but shortly after that it settles right down to 2000 and then 1500 after about a min. then i usually start driving it if im not clearing snow off it. is that more like whats going on?

anyways, those are my two theories.

i saw this last year, but its worth a watch this year to remind everyone to drive safe and if the roads are that bad, it not worth going out. its really erie to say the least. it would be funny if i thought it couldnt happen to me...but i dont laugh, because what goes around comes around. something has to be said about the first driver in the SUV that is obviously on the gas, thinking he can just gas out of anything. people...

Thief, it's taken me the better part of a half a year but that picture of your mazdaspeed body has won me over. If I ever go with a body kit, it's going to be the mazdaspeed one, or a well matched clone.

Dunlop Wintersport M3's FTMFW today... no problems, just a lot of tail-happy sliding accelerating from a dead stop... drove around without TCS because it's better and easier off the line.

No TCS for me...took like 5 min to clean the ground at the rear of the car in the GO TRASIT parking lot, then burn my clutch / DCS before realizing i have to switch it off.

Drift like a mafaka and have so much fun....then shovel my home driveway AND my neighbour's driveway ftmfw!

My completely stock '04 does the high/low thing for about a minute when I fire it up in the extreme cold. Then, as you say, it just sorts itself out.

After work today Calgary's temp was around -28 to -35 with windchill. My car did the same thing. Has done that the last few times it gets really cold. Nothing to worry about.

I'm in the GTA now. Took a flight back at around 4pm... beautiful weather we have over here

I didn't venture too far, but for the distance I traveled, I'm very impressed with my Miata and its Toyo tires.

I'm actually surprised some of you got beached?! Weird. Were you guys lowered?

Personally, I love how the MS kit is not too aggressive and yet not all that subtle. I don't know how Mazda did it, but I'm damn glad they did!

so marc, i had this happen to my car thismorning. i got in, fired it up as normal and the revs went up and down for about 20-30 seconds. thing is...every time it reved up then let off, it popped. really loudly actually. ive been noticing my car does pop quite a bit when you let off the gas now until its warmed up, then it wont pop at all. but just like yours, it sorted itself out pretty quickly. i noticed the temp was -18 though when i started it. it hasnt been taht cold here yet so im assuming its just the cold weather and nothing else. after work it didnt do the rev thing and it was like -10 then so...
