Speed of our cars

Holy crap!!
Abs lives!!! Where the hell you been buddy?
Fortunately, I don't have a problem in my FD when I'm idling around town. It pulls just fine in 2nd gear even if it is just trumbling along.
The benefits of a turbo!

Tell me about it.
I still haven't gotten the FD out of the garage yet.
Gotta get some good weather on the weekend and have some time to troubleshoot the car.
Things are going alright.
Are we going to see you around more often now? I know how busy work and our private lives get nowadays.

Drag strip = benchmark and practice
1. It's the best legal place to practice fast tire chirping (read: perfect hookup) launches with my new 8'. I think most of know that with some good throttle / clutch management we can sidestep the low end torque issue most of the time. I just dread to think what the automatic (paddle-shifting) RX8 crowd has to put up with.
2. To set the 'stock' benchmark 1/4 mile time before I begin pouring on the MODS: intake, exhaust, COBB, and flywheel to start. + I'll dyno my car at this point before taking it back to Cayuga for more real world testing.

^ I agree with both of you. Though the rx8 is a road racing vehicle and not known for its straight line speed its always a good idea to have a baseline start point....and why not have some fun by going really fast and trying to beat your own time..try not to get too addicted to it. hehe.

Did anyone buy there 8 for speed? It's the HANDLING! Best car I've owned and one of the best I've driven.
I've had two supercharged and one turboed, a couple big blocks>>> and the 8 is still way more fun!
It's just a go-cart for the road.

I started thinking about what I wrote and looked it up. Interpolate the graph lines.
Here's a 94 Civic: http://www.modified.com/features/060.../photo_07.html
Here's a random RX-8 dyno: http://www.dragtimes.com/2005-Mazda-...phs-12408.html
Interpolate the lines and they make similar power below 2000 rpm. If you want something with low-end power pick something with more displacement or one or two small turbos.
As for the use of the word "speed", it implies rate of movement, not rate of change of movement (ie. acceleration). The RX-8 has speed in corners.

Drag strip and the RX8 hmmmmmmmmm. I would guess a 7,000rpm side step of the clutch might work to get it to launch. HOWEVER........you will be picking up driveline pieces shortly after that. The driveline in the RX8 was never designed to have clutches dropped to make the car launch or be flat foot shifted like you need to do on a drag strip. If you try and ride the clutch to build RPM all I think you will do is cook the clutch disc, but I am real curious to how you make out! It will take lots of experimenting to sort that out. Have fun, I alway did love bracket racing!

Is it just me that's getting used to driving the car that I find the car really slow below 4000 rpm?
I drive mostly city, and in many cases, I find myself in 2nd gear at around 15km/h and I need to accelerate and it just feels so sluggish from 1000 rpm to 4000 rpm, and then it feels some pull afterwards...
Am I just too used to this car now that I no longer feel "the power" that it had when I had just got the car coming from a 1.6L Civic with 105 HP?
Car is at 38,000 km by the way.
