X-Copper, the reason why is because they have connection. Somethings you can't handle yourself better than an insider.

Is this your first time? I hope it is....you chance will be greater!

Yea summer's here and I'm always weary of getting a ticket...I just go with the flow of traffic and try not to be the first or last one in the pack.

My friend always used to get speeding tickets. He said he always used the excuse that he was a student and couldn't afford to pay the fines. They usually lowered it to a few bucks and only took off a point, if any...

Damn...i know the feeling. i got caught doing 90 in a 50 on Lakeshore in Hamilton...she was going to charge over 200 plus 3 points, but i got away with 10 over and no points. I heard that cops are going to have supped up cars and are trying to race people...if they race there is going to be annother cop car ready to pull over. can they do this?? isnt that entrapment??

sorry about the typos...using my phone

Dunno about Canada, but I've seen that around here for years. The cops had blacked out Camaro's and would race people and then pull them over in the Camaro. Note to self -- never race a Camaro, Charger, Mustang, Intrepid, or Crown Victoria.

Yes, I have some advice....take some responsiblity for your actions and pay the ticket. We all known the risk for a ticket is there when we speed but we choose to do it anyway...so when you get caught...pay up.

As Russell Peters would say,

It always amazes me how corrupt the system is here! Where I come from (Ireland) if you get a ticket there is no such thing as fighting it. It's crazy...either you were caught speeding or you weren't.

Is it like this throughout Canada or is it just Ontario that is corrupt? Paying someone (xcopper) to pay someone off (the cop) is blatant corruption no? Rich people can do what they want then basically, while the poorer have to simply pay their tickets.
Why not cut out the middleman altogether and carry a wad of cash around to pay off cops directly?? Something stinks badly with the system here.

Just my mini-rant. Sorry.

That's not corruption, it's the cornerstone of our legal system. You're entitled to a defense in the court of law, because cops are not always in the right. The reduction in fines is not through bribing the crown, but by settling out of court (to save the court time), or by hiring paralegals who can pick holes in sloppy police work. I think people give judges way too little credit. They are not all idiots. Most of them try to cut through the BS in the least amount of time and get to justice and common sense.

If nobody keep the police in check, they'd turn into thugs.

so i went to x-coppers and they said to get a court date and then they will go to the court on my behalf.
Fees $300.
They will aim to get the ticket removed completely or get the points reduced to zero. If they fail to get the points reduced to zero, then they will pay the fine.

so basically, my 2 options:
1- plead guilty and ask for reduction
2- plead NOT guilty, get a court date (months from now) and take my chances then.

hhmmm..... any advice?

I know what you are saying about the judges, and I concur. However in my opinion the corruption occurs and the system is out of whack before the judge even gets to hear the case.

By corruption I'll give an example:
Friend of mine recently got caught doing 86 in a 60. The cop also gave him a ticket for having a smoked screen over the license plate, and also another ticket for his exhaust being too loud (obviously having a bad day).

He hired xcopper, paid they guy 250. The xcopper guy went to the cop paid him off to drop the speed to less than 10 over, and also the other 2 tickets. So it was a success for my friend.

But how is that not corruption? The judge was not involved until the very end for the smaller ticket of less than 10 over. It was purely between the xcopper guy and the cop.

p.s. sorry didn't mean to hi-jack the thread.

Well you coluld also get lucky, cop might not show up. I hear the trick is to keep postphoning your date. Never hurts to try. I dont know how old you are, but I'm stil really young. I got a ticket for rolling at a stop sign. Went top court, and told them I'm a student and paying a ticket is hard. The prosecutor himself asked the judge to drop it lower. I hear you could also try taling to the prosecutor prior to your hearing. I also hear, well have heard from the prosecutor himself, they don't like it when ppl hire x-copper or lawyers to represent them. They prefer you take the time and show up. Just my .02 cents

I am not planning on hiring anyone. i will represent myself and take my chances. From what I have been reading up, i show up myself on the court date (which is months from now) and speak with the prosecutor / judge and take my chances. If the cop is a no show, I win! If cop shows up, then I ask for a lower charge and NO points.
And till this gets settled, this ticket does NOT show up in my records.. so no insurance spike!

There is something called "first appearence centres" where you could book an appointment with a crown and 99% of the time, will get a deal ..
From cbc.ca
First appearance centres, unique to Alberta and Ontario, were created to save regular courts time and costs. “If a person takes the opportunity to plead guilty without putting the court to the necessity of conducting a trial, then that person should be given some consideration in mitigation to his sentence"

$120 for 26 above the limit seems really low.

i got a speeding ticket once for going like 85 in a 50 zone its one of those roads where it dips and right at the bottom it goes from 60 to 50. So i fight it, the cop showed up for the first court date but the judge didnt show. they set the next date like 8 months from then, i had to represent myself on the second court date but the paralegal told me he filed for disclosure but has not received the cops disclosure yet so i was going to go there and ask for another date saying that i have not received disclosure from the cop yet. So i go there and before court starts the crown will speak to you to see what your going to do and i can see her making deals with the other defendants just to get them to plead guilty like reducing it to 10 over the limit. So i was like sweet, when the crown looked at my docket she just asked me to take a seat and wait for my turn i was like "WTF, Make me a deal like these other people you were just talking to" Anyways my case get called and guess what the cop didnt even show they called for the cop on the PA and i swear they wait like 1 second and the crown proceeded to ask the judge to throw out the case i was like SSSWWWWEEEEEETTTTTT!!!!

oh i didnt get the ticket in the 8 btw i was in my beater and the fine was almost 250 bucks

Dont pay the ticket fight it all the way, i did it and i got off look at the docket to see the badge number of the officer and on the day of your court date you can even see if the cop is there the badge number is on their shoulder pips if the cop is there try to find some way to have the court date moved, i guarantee he will not show if the case gets moved

I'd fight it too!! Regardless if you hire someone or not, it doesn't worth it for the ticket to stay on ur record...

There's someone I've been using for years and he charges $200 and takes off every SINGLE ticket that I've gotten... even 44 over on 407 by OPPs...

Especially with the street racers incident lately, it's def. not a good idea to have any record under ur name/ plate!!
