Sudbury RX8's
Hey, just wondering if there are any other RX8 owners from Sudbury on the forum...
I recently bought an 04 Grand Touring (Lightning Yellow), hard to miss...

From Ottawa I see... I am there often as well, (My girlfriend goes to U of O).
Would be cool to get together some time in the spring when you break it out again! By reading your signature, seems like a really nice looking 8!

Sweet man, I like it! Is there not already a 'Short shift' stock on the 8's?
If you are going with exterior lights LED's are the way to go, I had them on my old car, looked good, and lasted through some rough times. Neon's are pricey and break very easy for what I hear.
I actually bought a decent LED kit off ebay, with a controller, 40 diff settings for effects and sound sensor so it blinks with the music... It was like $200 and was actually good quality for the price.
Did you find the underdrive pully made a difference?

When I said LED lights, I don't mean underglow... you'd have to kill me first
I meant that I will be replacing all of the halogen bulbs (save the high beams) with LEDs -- turn signals, side markers, brake lights, reverse lights, license plate lights, all the interior lights, etc
For the SS: It's relatively short stock compared to many others, but I am getting a shorter one (29% shorter -- Axial Flow). Faster shifts = better shifts.
As for the pulley -- I enjoy how responsive it makes the throttle. The quick drops when I clutch in will be a perfect mate for the short shifter. Also, I am pulling 192RWHP with only the pulley, intake and exhaust, so I am quite happy with the car.
Next mods will be OMP Adapter and Ignition.

Ok glad about the Underglow, I went through that phase... glad i'm out of it!
I promised i wouldn't spend too much on mods but the devil on my shoulder gets the best of me... I plan on some tuning (COBB tuning access port) unless they come out with software any time soon. as well as a pully and lightweight flywheel (When the clutch dies)
29% shorter shifter... wow thats super short!
Are there any tracks in the Ottawa area that are open weekends for amateurs?

There are at least 3 that I know of: Shannonville, Luskville and Calabogie.
Luskville you can just show up, though it's a drag strip. For the rest, watch the events and pick the ones you would like.
There's also mco.org that hosts events (autocross esp.) randomly throughout the year.
If you come up to Ottawa, check out www.ottawamazda.ca. We got a few nice 8s here, including one turbo'ed

I'm in Ottawa once a month atleast. I wouldn't mind doing some racing this year, maybe drag race a few times but i would rather drive the 8 like it was meant to, straight line = no fun.

a lightning yellow 8 in sudbury...man you must stick out like a sore thumb, albiet a gorgeous sore thumb. I like sudbury, went there twice for a week each time, stayed at the girlfriends (now ex's) parents other house. very nice place. how bad are the roads in the winter though? I heard a rumor that you guys are allowed to run studs in your tires for a certain portion of the winter....is that true?

I took the pics at work, in estaire. I actually live in the minnow lake area. I know alot of people from the valley, esp that part.
and yes i do stick out, but thats how I wanted it as for the roads, they are always terrible, now i have a chance of swerving to miss the potholes tho, while keeping control lol. and yes we can run studs, i see a few people with them... out of my price range.

My only experience with them is removing them from someones tires that had moved from sudbury to guelph and was informed they were not legal so i spent what seemed like a lifetime pulling them out one by one with pliers. thank god it was only an echo, small tires = not that many studs. lol
I also think its worth noting all the other vehicles in your pictures are trucks or SUVs in drab colours, then theres a bright yellow sports car covered in snow. lol.

I was just through sudbury at the beginning of November on my way home(40KM South of calabogie) sure didn't see any other LY 8's
Definately need to organize a meet for 8 Owners at calabogie motorsports, its pricey, but looks worthwhile

really? how expensive are they normally, i mean aside from the price of the tires. I supose it might be hard to get a studdable tire in an RX8 appropriate size.

Well I do alot of highway driving and I heard that studs are only rated for 80 km/h or something so i didnt even bother with looking at prices, but i assume they are out of my price range. I bought my tires off tirerack.com cheaper by $400 then the place in town i was going to buy from...
Regarding the other vehicles, well i work for a consulting engineering company doing a contract on the new highway 69 four lane, so everyone drives 4x4 trucks for site access. I dont have to go on site often as im in the office so i get to have the flashy car lol

I was in Sudbury in September with my Blue 8. I advised my cousin to avoid RX8's in Sudbury and instead invest in a Subaru WRX. The pot holes will eat this car up in no time.
Wulf - My car looks almost the same as yours. Fully loaded blue GT (minus nav...damnit) and the SAME rims for my winters, lol. I need a center cap...any help finding one?? And how do you like the ExoticSpeed exhaust? I want that exact one with the blue tips. Do you run a cat in your midpipe? I plan on running without it...

The potholes are definitely no fun, bent my winter rim already (luckily not too bad though) you definitely cannot drive on every road... you really need a fullsize truck to drive these roads.
Parking the 8 soon for the winter once my B2600 is certified, then only use it to drive ottawa and back when I go to see the girlfriend.
