Summer or All Season Tires
Hey guyz long time no see...
K I need summer or all season tires as mine are bald. Go figure...only 3yrs old and I have winter tires...
So my question to you: What tire would you use on your ms rims? What or how much would they cost me for a decent tire?
Got pricing from Tires23 for Continental ExtremeContact DW $900/set
Hankook K110 $900/set
Sumitomo HTRZ III $900/set... Is this good??

Holy crap!!
Where you been?! It's been forever! Off saving the world I bet?
As for your tire question, of the 3 you listed, I would pick up the Continental's.
But, IMHO, I would get some Bridgestone's RE050A Pole Positions or some Michelin's Pilot Sport PS2's.
I wouldn't trust any other tire maker when it comes to high performance rubber.
I have the RE050A PP's on the FD. And those suckers take alot of power to break loose. It'll be more than enough for the 8.
So how's it going? Living well?

Things are good Neo... YOu know the same old...doing shoots, having fun...enjoying my car... breeding gecko's, fish, yorkies & maybe soon my Charmeleon.
So how much did yours cost for 4??? I don't like going with the no name brand...lol... So I will check out pricing on the Bridgestones or Michelines. They were the one's that gave me pricing on those brands. I just asked what they had to offer.
Thanks...

O hai
I agree with ^
At that price you can get some Star Specs which are wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than anything you listed.
Whatever you do don't buy an all-season tire... no such thing.. it's really a "sucks in all-seasons" tire.

Good to see you're enjoying life.
You're breeding alot of animals lately. Kinda a hobby of yours, huh? lol
I picked up my RE050A PP's back when our dollar was stronger than the American Greenback. I got them through the Tirerack.
Now, it's a different story. I recently picked up rims and tires from Tires23. Good place to get rubber or aftermarket rims without having to deal with custom charges and extra fees if you get them from the States.
You should ask them how much the Bridgestones and Michelins will cost. If you pick up the tires for about the same price as those "knockoff" tires, then you're sitting pretty.
I think I paid about $900 for my set. Back when our dollar was strong.
I'm still wondering if you're going to do a photoshoot with my car in a naughty nurse outfit.

Well, that link is only for an "ultra high performance" rubber. The others mentioned in this thread (apart from the initial post from Leesha) are considered "Max Performance Rubber".
Can you imagine what you would feel if you've got a Max tire instead of an Ultra High Peformance tire?
Also, gotta remember she'll be driving the car mainly the road. Which is why I didn't bother mentioning the RE11 from Bridgestone. Exceptional dry weather tire. But it's rain capability could be better. Neither did I mention the Michelin Pilot Cup tire.

Lots of 8 owners are going with BF Goodrich KDWs
http://www.bfgoodrichtires.ca/overvi...-a-kdw/22.html
I priced them recently at Tires23 @ $950 installed.
I have RE050A PP on my 8 now. They're ok but will cost way more.

K now you guyz have confused me...Between Neo, Darkbrew and 2hit6 I don't know which to go for.
I want something that will be good in the rain as well if that helps and reliable also long lasting.
I like these:
Bridgestone:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
BFGoodrich's Ultra High Performance Summer tire :
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
So if I order from tire rack is it american? Do they ship here or do I make a trip to the states??
What are the tires that come with our cars? Brand?? My winters are still on so I can't check the summers as they are put away.
Anyone with MS Rims is this the size tire I need?? Size: 225/45R18

I've heard good things about the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus but I never tried them.
Seriously if you're going to spend that much money Star Specs are the way to go... awesome wet and dry grip, tons of fun.
Heard lots of good things about the KDW too... (I'd put it as my 3rd choice)

Leesha,
The tire places are always going to try to sell you a tire that they have kicking around or they can get an abundance of.
As mentioned before, I would not go with an all-season tire.
OEM tires for the 8 were from Dunlop and Bridgestone. Both were considered "ultra High performance" according to Tirerack.
They have different stats regarding their performance, reliability, and durability. More often than not, the Bridgestone won out the top spot.
There are going to be many comparisons between tires. It really depends on the driver and what they can feel.
Rest assure, you will definitely notice the difference moving from a "summer only" tire to an "all-season" tire.
If all you care about is longevity of the tire, than prepare to make sacrifices in overall grip compared to your stock rubber.
Also keep in mind OEM speed and load index were 91W. Anything less and you'll really notice the difference between tires.
Here's a small footnote, my Miata is due for rubber. I seriously doubt I'll be able to get away with this season on the OEM rubber. It's seen more than it's fair share of wear. And you can tell the tire is almost on it's way out.
OEM tire is Bridgestone RE050A.
I took a look at all the other tires available for the Miata, and I would still go with the RE050A Pole Positions for my replacement tire.
I was seriously considering the RE11. But from what I've noticed from a few people, the tire has exceptional dry weather grip. But when the rain comes, you better be grabbing the wheel with both hands.
The RE050A Pole Position is the perfect compromise.
I've personally had experience with Dunlops and Yokohamas on all my other vehicles. And believe me when I tell you I would never consider getting any tires from those manufacturers again.
I mentioned I had to get rims and tires recently from Tires23. I had to get new rubber for the 6 since it didn't have a summer set. Now the 6 is a different animal altogether. It's a family sedan. Even then, the OEM tire was a Michelin with a 93V speed/load rating. Only downside was it was an all-season tire.
I replaced it with a Bridgestone RE760 Sport tire. Car tracks and grips better than the OEM tire without giving up too much in the high performance category. Quiet, and it should last me at least 2 more seasons if not 3. Depending how heavy I use the car.
For the 8, I would only consider getting the Bridgestone and Michelin. I've noticed a few people go for the Dunlop, but I haven't encountered a Dunlop tire I can trust.
There's a reason why Manufactures pick Bridgestone and Michelin to make their rubber...

You still have winters on?
Above 15 C winters will be destroyed very quickly
Get your summer tires on by early may.
Your MS wheels are 18 x 7.5 so yes, you need 225/45R18

RXeckless,
Yes, I know. Which I stated in one of my posts above.
What I meant to say, there's a reason why high performance vehicles such as M3's, 911's, Aston Martins, and my personal favorite Ferrari, choose either Bridgestone or Michelin.
They don't want their machines to under perform.
