MazdaSpeed RX-8 in Targa Newfoundland - PICS!
Just dropped off my 8 for ignition coils and scheduled maintenance. They've got the MazdaSpeed 8 that will run in the upcoming Targa Newfoundland rally in the showroom. WOW!
Fully modified for rally racing with the complete MS body kit. The wheels are outstanding - kind of a charcoal grey colour, a lot of relief in the spokes. Will get a few snaps when I pick up my car later today.

I saw that car when it was built - Dave Wood Mazda Motorsport in Newmarket did the install of all the MS parts (Kevin Godden and his staff). It is beautifull! I took some great pictures of it with my SLR, but my wife exposed the film!! Did you see the price of some of those parts?? $1600 each for the MS wheels! WOW is right.

as promised
These are from the show room, lighting's not all that great but it will do for now. Will try to get some better pics at the pre-rally show this weekend.
Turns out the Mazda team showed up with only 1 spare wheel/tire for the rally. Mine is the only other 8 in the city so they asked to borrow my stock wheels for spares for the race ... I bet I'm the first Canadian owner with the winter wheels on this year

The picture really doesn't do justice to these beautiful wheels, will have to better on that for you guys. Not sure if you can tell but they actually had to cut into the door panels to accomodate the roll cage.

More pics from time trials day ....
Some pics from the parking lot of the provincial parliament - the start point for time trials and test runs. The RX-8 drivers are from World of Wheels magazine, Hugh and Jeremy if any of you know them.
By the state of the roads in Nfld, I imagine they're going to say bye-bye to those sweet ground effects within a few minutes of leaving the city. The rally route passes through a lot of small towns via secondary and rural highways on the island.
Notice the master cylinder is bolted to the post to keep it in place. Gues they're planning on being a little hard on the brake.
Any other particular pics you'd like to see?

Also, what color is your 8? I'm assumming Titanium.
Reason I'm asking if because I was talking to my cousin when I was in St. John's for a couple of days, and she said they seen a black 8 in town. I drove down this year and had my red 8. I was hoping to see another one, or you and give you the thumbs up.

I probably won't be back with the car anytime soon (not w/the 8 anyway). I will however be out there next summer for a wedding, but will probably just fly into St. Johns. If I'm going to be in St. John's for a day, I'll let ya know.
A couple of friends and me are thinking of running targa in a couple years, but we'll see if it happens...
