I had my car in for the oil cooler hose recall and an oil change last week. Last night I popped the glove box to look for something, and what should I find but.......................
...a box with 4 new Mazda/NGK spark plugs in it!

He's as bad as Can
What you found was something more common than a fairy, a incompetent dealer. They were supposed to install them as a part of new car prep. The life of an RX-8 from the assembly line to the first customer has many short trips. In a effort to reduce flooding they started having the dealers install fresh plugs at the time of sale.

^ Heh heh plausible but I don't think so in this case. I am the second owner (as of Dec/06) and the original owner took delivery in May/03. I would have noticed.
I think this is the reason: this car was one of the ones covered by the horsepower overstatement debacle and the original owner picked the "free maintenance" option. The salesman said it was transferable to me but the service manager later said it wasn't. I raised a stink and they reluctantly agreed to cover it (it comes up as "WARRANTY" on my receipts). Last time there the service manager said I had only one freebie left after that one. The last freebie is 80,000 km (I happen to be at 53,000) and I'm guessing that spark plug replacement is called for.
