Track days at Mosport
I've just been invited for some track days at Mosport this coming season from my insurance broker, which was really nice to get.
So my question, Is there anything I should do to the car before going
(info) 2010 R3 Nice ride, not quite 1o,oook on the car and all OEM.
Just really hoping the whole big break thing really isn't nessassry.
Thanks Glen

Woah woah... your CAR insurance broker? Man I wouldn't even use insurance and track in the same sentence lol.
Anyway, I had some track time at mosport DDT a few months ago with basically a stock car and it performed beautifully. Make sure your oil is topped up so the OMP can supply lubrication. Check the oil throughout the day as well, bring 1-2 litres just in case. Also, try not to run when your gas is low, the constant g-forces on a low tank might cause fuel starvation, so if you can bring a canister of extra gasoline to the track to fill up so you don't have to drive 40 mins round trip to the nearest gas station. (the gas station on track at mosport GP is insanely expensive). Check your tires, make sure they have good tread, no cord, and proper air pressure. You'll want to monitor your air pressure throughout the day, probably need to let some air out. Also check your brake pads. I'm on stockers and they performed great so just make sure you have enough pad left.
Most of this stuff you can check the day before or the day of the event, but brakes and tires should be taken care of long before. Also a helmet if you don't have one.

Yes he did tell me about no insurance on track, which is fine, I really don't think I'm going out there to set any new best lap records (ha ha ha) just a bit of fun and get good feel for the car. It will be my first at mosport on track at least in the 8.
I have been there a few times to watch some racing. I do live in Oshawa so going out to Mosport is a must if your any kind of race fan.
My broker is quite the car guy and I got invited after I bought the 8

Prep for track days has been covered ad nauseum in the competition section: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-racing-25/.
You need to search first in order to avoid starting redundant threads.
A word a caution: based on your question, it is safe to assume that you are new to the track. Mosport is probably not the best place to start it is pretty high speed with blind corners and not allot of run off room.

VERY important question.....................which track at Mosport???? The developement track or the grand prix track?
btw..........I hope everyone now knows it is no longer Mosport it has been officially renamed "Canadian Tire Motorsports park.

I agree with the other posters that the GP track is not the place for your first track experience. The driver development track is an ideal spot and you'll absolutely enjoy it. There are many great opportunities to drive the DDT with instructors to prepare for the GP track, which I personally suggest you don't drive until you have small track experience AND and instructor.
Ontario Time Attack has driving schools at both tracks (so do others); I mention OTA as I'm one of the instructors. See thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/canada-forum-35/ontario-time-attack-229276/
Being on the track is absolutely fun; being on Mosport without proper instruction is fun until you scare yourself silly (and possibly hurt your car).
Sorry for being a nervous nelly.

Do they really let nubes (not sure if you are G_Man, no disrespect) on track at Mosport wo/instructors? If so, heaven help the nubes. If instructed, any track is relatively safe unless the instructors are clueless (which would be unusual too).
Little off topic, but from scorcherjf's comment, I'm really astounded that the R3 still has the fuel starvation problem. Is Mazda so deaf that they have never heard the complaints about this? ... or worse don't know how to fix it? Retorical ?? I realize, as they are sadly. Still, just wow, because it really is a pain at HPDEs to keep watching the gas gauge then run off to some gas station while you still have 1/3 tank left.
Otherwise G_man, seach and read up as suggested. The first time out, try to relax (hard) and do everything your instructor says. Drink lots of liquids, bring your tiregauge, check your pads and rotors beforehand, and enjoy! The R3 should be fun....

Ok I get it, the car really needs nothing, what i read is for me is to get a couple or more training days in on the smaller track before even considering the gran prix track.
nervous nelly (me too) I still owe money on the thing

On certain lapping days anyone can go out and drive with no experience etc. The issue with the big track is the speed you are able to carry with little effort from the car etc. In turn 2 in a street car with little effort we can hold 120+kmh through the top and middle of the corner and exit at about 135kmh. If you think about a crash on the 401 most happen around 100kmh and you have a lot more room before you hit a concrete wall on the highway than you do at Mosport. Probably the best track to run at to learn about car control and get some idea of speed is Pro Track configuration at Shannonville.

Eight yrs ago a friend asked me to go to Watkins Glenn with our new RX-8s. Didn't really dawn on me what was in store. Only when I got there did I realize what I'd gotten myself in for. Huge track, long curving fast straights, lots of elevation change. My car was stock and I was a 1st day total track newb. After driving eight hours to get there... there was no choice... grin and bear it.
Long story short, wth the added fun of 1st day pouring rain, second bright sunshine, it was a heart pounding life-changing experience! Both the car & I survived a bit numb feeling, but nothing that couldn't be washed off really.
Can't you get an instructor or are these strictly pay and drive events? Sounds weird if that's how they run events. Remember, on track, you don't have to drive any faster than you want. Don't waste the opportunity, make it count. Focus on learning and safety not speed! The car can take care of itself pretty much.
