Trying SPYN Wheels

Trying SPYN Wheels
As a change from the Mazdaspeed rims that came with the car, I'm going to give these SPYN wheels a try on my black rx8. They are coming from Montreal and should be here Tuesday.
For anyone interested, I'll write back after some use and comment on the wheels and post photos.

One of the mazda guys told me that the mazdaspeed wheels that came with the car are actually offset closer to the car? As in they have a narrower track than the stock RX-8 rims? Is this true?
I thought they were both 18 x 7.5

I believe stock wheels are 18x8 and MS wheels are 18x7.5. Keep in mind that the MS wheels are really for the mazdaspeed 6 which can't have wide tires because of suspension design (or so i've heard).

I kinda like them. Hard to tell until you see them on your car though. Hopefully you can get us some pics of them on your car.
I'll have to photochop your pix of course to see what it looks like on Titanium Gray.

I will post pics of my ride soon. I have both sets of rims, but I have the mazdaspeed package rims on the car right now. I'm still considering whether I should use the stock rims or not for summer and use the mazdaspeed as winter, because the stock ones are wider!
if the stock are 18 x 8 and mazdaspeed are 18 x 7.5... but they are using the same tire, how does that work? How does the tire lose 0.5" of width and still fit the mazdaspeed rims?

TragicallyHip, thanks for posting that pic. Looks good in silver, too.
Footman, I was thinking about getting the OEM rims for winter. I really like them but decided to try something in black. I guess I'll use the mazdaspeed ones for winter. Looking forward to seeing pics of your ride.
RWags, it's brilliant black.
I'll definitely put up pics when the spyn's are on. The weight per 18" wheel, is 25.5 lbs. I feel a bit self-conscious about these rims, might be a little OT...

Meh, not really. From the back the tires will still be the same width. The only reason it matters is because you won't be able to fit a wider tire on the 7.5s should you want to.

Oh, that's what you mean by "look better". umm... well I guess the stock wheels would stick out about .25" more than the ms wheels, given the same offset. Wouldn't make all that much difference in appearance would it?

Pic of one wheel. Tomorrow, pics of the whole car (except one side because the company didn't send one wheel cap). Also, using the black nuts instead of silver because they also didn't send a few nuts.
Maybe I need to paint the calipers...but that's another thread.

About the offset of the SPY SVS TUNING wheels,
I'm pretty sure the offset is 48 but the same wheel also comes with an offset of 40. Not sure which I got!? (edit: the offset is 40 mm)
The reason I mention it is because I was reading here about the different feel of the steering when offset is significantly changed from stock of 50 (?) and I AM feeling some differences. I don't know the mechanical terms and can't really describe it yet ... and I might even like it, but I'll concentrate tomorrow and report back if anybody's interested or has suggestions.
And it was raining here today so no better pics than this ....

Glad you like!
I will post full car pics very soon so you can get a better view. Also, I've learned that the offset is indeed 40 mm. The steering/handling does feel different but not in a bad way, I'm getting used to it. But I admit, that is not something I thought about. Now that I know the offset definitely can/does affect steering, I will keep that in mind in the future. If I had to do it again, I don't think I'd go for that much offset. Nevertheless, I'd like to hear about the offset some of you have ... to make myself feel better.
Also, the missing parts for the wheels are in! I'll put them on tomorrow and take pics.

Updated Pics
I now have all the missing parts for the wheels. I've kept the black lug nuts on instead of the new sliver nuts.
Here's a couple pics from today. Sorry they're still not very good images.

This look good on your BB!!!
The MS package for rx8 is really supposed to be on Mazda 6, but 18*7.5 is wide enough to fit 225/45 tires.....i dont know if it can go any wider.....
i am also wondering is the stock wheels 18*8???????if it is, it could obviously fit 245/40 tires....cuz i am thinking to get tires on stock rims but a little wider.....
