Uninsured kids driving Minivans suck... (now w/pics)
.... when they slam into you from behind.
... and then they ditch their van and run away.
The cops brought out the K-9 Unit and everything. They found the girl who was driving and her male friend who was with her when she hit me and ran.. she has no insurance, and just bought the vehicle.
The police tell me she has 3 tickets:
Leaving the scene of an accident
No Insurance
Displaying a plate not registered to the vehicle.
My car is damaged, and my buddy in the passanger seat has a case of whiplash.
So, judging by the fact that she's driving an old minivan wit no insurance, I'm sure she won't be able to afford to fix my car.
They actually hit hard enough that my license plate left an imprint in the bumper cover and trasferred the white paint around the edges.
The car doesn't look that bad from 20 or 30 feet back, but it's going to need a whole new rear clip.
Here some examples of the damaged areas
*edit: Too pissed off to go out tonight, so I figured I may as well edit the post and put the pics in.

Agreed. That sucks.
Was your passenger anyone I know?
In any case I hope they're feeling better soon.
I'd blame the no insurance on the cost of insurance here, but I have a feeling that anyone with the wrong tags on the van, and that was stupid enough to run away, wouldn't have had insurance if it had only cost $20.

Jasper: Nope, nobody you know. In a fair bit of pain, but ok other then that.
The police exchanged contact information on our behalfs once they tracked her down, and she called me tonight. I was a little too annoyed to talk to her very much though. She works at McDonald's making a couple hundred $ a week, so chances of me getting money from her are slim.
From the small-world department: The car in front of me that I was just WILLING to roll forward so I had room to escape as I saw this van coming in stopped to act as a witness.
Passanger in the Integra was a girl I went to highschool with and used to work with for a few years. Hadn't talked to her in about 4 years. Anyway, in the course of conversation I find out that her roomate of the last two years (and currently) is this cute saleswoman at Steele Mazda where I bought my car. And her sister works at City Mazda...

That sucks Redshift! But at least the damage doesn't look TOO bad. Put the girl on a payment plan Whatever payment you are looking for :D
I don't get it! Is it illegal not to have insurance in NS? It is here in ON. And running away from the scene? How dumb can you be?
P.S. that's no minivan that's a safari!

By the plate I see you are in Nova Scotai.
Some Canadian provinces have a fund to cover cases like this.
Maybe talk to your local provincial government, not to mention your insurance agent..

Yes. It is illegal for her not to have insurance, as well as to leave the scene. She was fined for both of those offenses, plus some others.
As for payment plans, in the 30 seconds I saw her before she rain, well, she looked decently cute actually.
I'm calling my insurance company tomorrow morning (damn long weekends) and putting in a claim for an un-insured motorist. Then my insurance company can/will take her to court to get their money from her. Probably garnish her wages or something I expect.

Sorry about the situation, man: that sucks large.

Damn ... harsh. Looks like it won't be that big a deal to replace the whole panel, though.
Sounds like NS has a similar program as we have here in Nfld, uninsured motorist coverage is included with most packages here.
Sounds like it should be fairly routine for you to get your repairs covered by your own insurance. Good luck to the insurance comapny to extract their ounce of flesh....

Aside from being hit sucking a$$, I must say that I'm impressed by the lack of damage you sustained. Judging from the pics alone, and comparing the damage of the two vehicles, I am really impressed that the car took it as well as it did. But that doesn't change the fact the beeyatch could use a good backhand.

Thanks everyone. Like was said above, it sucks, but everybody walked away, and the car can be fixed.
I met with the adjuster today, and he outright told me to take the car to Coachworks, the best bodyshop in town, and said he wanted to get the rear clip off and take a look underneath, as well as get it on a rack to make sure it's straight, so I think I'll be well taken car of.
Bad News: My exhaust tips now come out at slightly different angles.. hope it's just shifted on it's mounts and not bent.
Good News: For those who may end up in a smilar circumstance, the body parts appear to be fairly cheap. From Mazda Canada, a rear bumper cover (which includes the center black plastic valance) is only $350, and the black platic surrounds around the exhaust tips are only $43.

sorry about the bender Redshift
Does this officially make you the first Canadian RX-8 owner thats had their car bent (stolen rims don't count)?
I don't think it's a good club to be in, but I guess you're president.
Not that this helps you, but Manitoba Public insurance would just pay for my repairs and go after the culprit for the damages.
No hassles, no worries.
let us know how the repairs went and all the rest of the bull.
p.s. never date then marry any chicks that work pumping gas or flippen burgers. A coworker of mine is now paying his X over 4 grand a month in spousal and child support. OUCH, she was a burger flippen part time gas jockey
