Update on the status of the RX-8
Hi all,
A quick update on what's happening with the RX-8:
The second boat has arrived in Vancouver. So now there are around 240 RX-8 here. Right now they are still being inspected. No one knows when they will be put on the rail.
Since there is 240 cars and 150 dealers, the car will probably be launched nationwide at the same time. Know that to launch a car in a region (Quebec, Atlantic, etc.) EVERY dealer in that region must receive at least one car. So with the quantity of RX-8 that are here, we're ok, all Canada should receive the car at the same time.
Now I don't know what they plan to do with the rail travel time. Since it takes about 2 weeks (I think) to rail a car from BC to NS, will the dealers in BC receive their RX-8 2 weeks before the one in NS? I guess we'll know later...
When there is news, I'll try to tell you.
MarLo

How many RX-8's are expected in Canada. And if there are more to come this year when is the third shipment supposed to be here?
Thanks.

This is great news. I was excited when my car shoed at sea, then got more excited when I received my VIN. My car has been showing at port for about a week with no movement and I was getting worried. I was hoping to have mine for my summer vacation. Oh well, at least the car should be here in the GTA in a couple of weeks barring no surprises.

I called my salesperson today and guess what, my ETA is now, A FEW MONTHS! yup, they told me end of June when i pre-ordered, now they say that the first shipment arrived end of June, not MY car! and since their dealership is only getting two cars, it's gonna be a long wait for me! i dont know if i should wait any longer! they mentioned to me that it's very hard to get a specific ETA for my car! but he did say i can hope for it(and maybe something will happen)! he also said they can't get me my car within the next 2 weeks definately, so that was pretty sad! im really frustrated right now!!

What is annoying me is the lack of information.
I know that my car has been in port for 15 days (the first ship arrived on June 17th). All anyone can, or will, tell me is that it is going through Customs and getting inspected. How long does it take to inspect a bunch of cars that were thoroughly inspected and tested before being shipped from Japan? And I know Canada Customs is slow, but two weeks?
Since the Atlantic and Quebec cars were shipped first, presumably so they could get a head start shipping across the country, does this mean all the other cars are going to have to go through this 2+ week "whatever" as well?
At this rate it'll be August before anyone sees anything! (Yes, I hope I'm exagerating)
Can you tell I'm enjoying having to drive my non-air conditioned black MX-3 around in this lovely hot weather we've been having, while my shiny silver air conditioned new 8 is enjoying the breeze off the Pacific out west?
Note: I just wanted to make clear that this is nothing against MarLo, but just a general rant that I had to get off my chest. I greatly appreciate whatever info MarLo can give us, and I'm sure my dealer does too, since it might (just maybe) reduce the number of calls I make to him.

Jasper_the_2nd: It's called customs...it's take awhile before the cars are released.
Don't worry about the how long it is taking, as last year at this time, the internet was no were near as large and had as many forums as it does now. So therefore nothing really has changed in the process of getting cars out to the dealers, it just that we get the information instantly now. Just chill, technically the car isn't supposed to be here until next year, so if they arrive in August that's good, but if they come earlier then consider it very lucky.

Just heard from the dealer today, they are loading the cars in Vancouver (New Westminster, actually) on transport trucks next week. East of Manitoba, you have to wait for train transport. Probably one week or less for truck transport, up to two weeks for train.
It's the "official release"!!!!:D
