243 km/h here. Didn't notice that my front splitter was loose (father curbed the car lol) and at that speed with the wind, the stress was too much and it broke down the center which caused the front to lighten a bit so i backed it down to cruising speed.

god i love it when there's no traffic.

Well, according to Mazda they are governed at 255 kmh or 155mph. I had a 1993 RX-7 R1 (25th anniversary here in Canada) on the limiter. I had my 2004 RX-8 on blizzaks at 241kmh on the 400 going downhill towards hwy 9, but then I said to myself "you idiot your on snow tires" and slowed down. Gotta love those "V" rated blizzaks! I might take a 2006 to my friends dyno and see what rpm it runs on the limiter in 6th gear. We are taking the RX-7 race car to the dyno next week to see how our transmission changes have affected our top speed, and how much HP the new engine has.

in my previous car i hit like 230kph (C230K)

i hate to spped now, my record is about as long as this thread, and i wanna keep on driving!, i know the 8 can hit 250kph,

fastest i ever went was like 260-270kph in SL55 by the time i merged on to the highway i was doin 200kph, the other 60 took like 7sec and then i let off, **** go's by real fast at that speed.

speeding is wrong "DON'T GET CAUGHT"

You guys are nuts..!

My latest brainstorm - Trans-Canadian autobahn-style road. Coast to coast (bypasses Quebec, going through northeastern US). Now, that would bring in the US tourist dollars!

Same speed, same direction same RPM, same gear .... different highway...on the 403 between #10 and Winston Churchill midnight about a year and a half ago. It felt like there was a bit more pull left in the car. Note that I think its a bit dowenhill too on that stretch.

I know RX-8 is not designed for racing.
But I wanna know the Max. speed of RX-8 from your experience.
My max. speed was 176km/h.
But I don't usually drive that fast~~~I often drive under the speed limit.
How fast did you drive? Pls share your experience~!
No matter how fast you drove before, drive safely from now on!

p.s. I, personally, don't agree people to race on the street or drive over speed-limit.
176.. lame.. lol..

ive done a few 220+ runs on HWY1 at 2am.. and i hit 250+ in my Focus SVT 3 yrs ago..

My best is 196km/h on the Queensway around 1-2am on a weeknight. I was in 4th around 6500RPM.

My insurance is through the roof as it is $288 with a perfect driving record. So I'm really scared of being caught speeding.

Speeding is so wrong.
Always make a complete stop at stop signs.
Obey all on-ramp suggested limits.
Pay your taxes on time.
Always take your car to a Mazda Dealer for scheduled check-ups.

Me?

1st - Beep - Shift - 2nd Beep - Shift - Third Beep - Shift - Brake for slow traffic - repeat. Live for the BEEP.
Worst gas rate?? 30L/100km = lots of BEEPS!!!

Speed limits are for chumps. The funnest thing I like to do is bomb up and down 30km/h school zones dodging the Chillin's like little pylons.
Good thing about small kids - when you hit them, they really don't do much damage.

Speed Kills?
It's not about the speed - but the sudden 50G stops.

I tried mine one week night at 1:30AM on a main high way with no traffic. I hit 233k/h. I could've hit higher if there was no speed limiter and wind restriction. After driving this speed for around 3 to 4 minutes, my RPM guage sudently droped down to 0 !!! The car slowed down for about 5 seconds and the guage went back up. At this point, i was doing around 210k/h. So the RX-8 does have a stock speed cut off of 230-235k/h.

If you don't let it breath often and get it up there in the speed, you'll clog it up and that'll cost you more than all the tickets of a lifetime. You just gotta open it up a few times a weeks at a minimum. You don't have to go supersonic, but hit 200-210KMS once a week merging on to the highway or something.

In regards to the 'unclogging' factor of speed, doesn't the engine temp and RPMs have more to do with it than speed? How would speed help 'unclog' the engine?

Actually, the tickets will cost you more: $2K more in insurance per year, for perhaps 5 years to clear your record, is $10K. That's assuming you still have the 8 after 5 years.

Higher speeds pushes all components of the power plant for longer durations at higher spin rates and greater pressure against wind resistance. As opposed to letting off the gas every few seconds to shift up and down. Going 8,000 RPM in 1st is not doing nearly as much purging as 8,000 RPM in 3rd 4th or 5th.

Hey Dan. Long time no speak. Sounds like your doing just fine. I understand your going to the U.K. next month. WE absolutely should get together one last time with the regulars before you split. Let set it up for June 17 or 24. Do you want to come down or do we go over to your neck of the woods? Maybe wrap a game of golf at the same time. What are you going to do with your 8 ?
