US vs. Canadian model and importing
I just moved from Ottawa to San Diego and had an accident that wrote off my old car.
I've purchased an RX-8 (YEAH! THIS CAR ROCKS!) and I'm curious : if I move back to Canada in a couple of years will there be anything that it's missing?
They have daytime running lights now, and I'm not worried about taxes or whatever (that's a money issue, not a technical one) : I'm just curious as to the differences between the model lineup there when compared to here.

Well, you'd have to get it painted. Those nordic green ones aren't allowed up here :D
Seriously though, you shouldn't have any problems. The main parts of the car are all identical. Heck, we even got stuck with having to meet California's bizarre emissions levels.

I will be getting my 8 on thursday of this week. Can not wait!!
There is no tire sensor for the 8 on the Canadian version, kinda disappointed as I love my toys.
I found out that in Canada, they are putting BF Goodrich RunFlats on the car for stock. I have had BF Goodrich before and they make an amazing tire!!
Any comments?

Ya thats right, head light washers for Canada. I do not think that the States have that option available.
I had checked with the dealer today, and he said BF GoodRich RunFlats are on the car, is Dunlop a division of Bf GoodRich?

Wow, that was a great idea : I'm not used to using the search tool ![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Looks like it will be fine : I'll get dinged by the Revenue side of CCRA but customs and the MTO will be fine : the canadian and american specs seem to only differ on the options, not on the things that matter.
Thanks!

I remember switching cars back and forth between Ontario and Quebec, and I was forced to do car certifications every time (even with new cars). What a pain.
I loved the part where the mechanic (certifier) gets in your car and drives around the block to check the mechanics (acceleration, brakes, etc...). I would hear brake screeching (before ABS), and hard engine gunning. I hope that I didn't make you paranoid..... But that's years away when/if you come back.
Your car will hate you when you bring it to Ottawa.
Hmmm.... San Diego... Sunny climate, beaches, bikini babes (for those who like that kind of stuff), SPF40 suntanning lotion required.... Ottawa... Tulip Festival, Winterlude, -40 AntiFreeze required.... (like Montreal)

As you can tell, my mind is on spring. It just snowed again in Montreal yesterday. I have winter tires, the roads are just a mess.

I just walked back home along the beach after going out for dinner.
I almost needed to put on a jacket. It's a bit chilly on the beach!
I have no intention of bringing my car back to Ottawa, it's only if the absolute worst happens and I get kicked out of southern California
