Vancouver/Richmond Billiards meet
Hey, curious as to wether any Vancouver and area rotary lovers would be up for doing a meet with some guys from the rx7 club, thinking pool, then sushi.
Plan so far is to meet up around 730 pm on Saturday, at Lansdowne, then head over to the pool hall at Alexandra and Garden City.
Afterwards, anyone who is hungry, we could head over to Aji Toro on 3 road and Alderbridge.
If anyone is interested, post on here, or give me a call at 764-6582, if I am not working, I will pick up.
And Wakeech, you gotta come get the rice stick so you can kick my ***, hehe

dont know if it gonna be necessary out here in Van, hope I dont need to, but I was looking into all seasons when on vacation, but apparently our stock tires are more aggressive and better in worse conditions than all seasons.

I got a set of blizzacks and I'm gonna switch over probably next week?
I wanna keep taking drives later in winter so I hope that would help.
Andrew, do you think an 8 with snow tires can make it through coqahalla (sp?) highway in the winter? Always wanted to do a winter drive through there or would that be just plain stupid/dangerous?
but oh yea the snow tires are crazy heavy, I think I might have problems lifting it and mounting it on the wheel studes.

Sorry to go way off topic Drew...
Usoff... did you buy the tires strictly for your country road trips, or for city driving? I wonder if they make a difference in our milder winter climate?
I'm seriously faced with the dilemma of whether to buy or not to buy. ~$1500 is alot to spend on 3 days of snow (if that).
The one thing that worries me now, is with the colder rain my tires tend to lose traction especially in low gear/RPM turns, and starting on inclines. Would winter tires be any better in those situations?
Let us know how they turn out. My decision to buy may fall on how yours turn out.
Thanks.

I would say, after my drive up the coquihala, and most talks I had with tire shops out there, it would be possible, but with the sudden storms that can rear up on the drive, it might not be advisable, unless in early day, noon type times, if its sunny to begin with, less chance of snow forming, and less chance of icy sections.
If you go Usoff, remember to add a few sandbags in the trunk for safety sake.

Winter tires are much softer compound, designed to work at a lower temp than the stock tires. You will definitely get better traction with winter, or all season tires in the cold/ snow than the stock tires. In Vancouver....usually above zero and wet. I'm going to drive with the stock tires unless it snows...then I'll drive the SUV :D

yea sorry for jacking your thread Andrew :p
but yea right now on inclines my tires spin a bit if I let go of the clutch too quickly with my summer tires. I'll let you know how they are in cold rain when I switch over to winter tires. But yea I'll be driving with them throughout winter till probably next feb (other than Sunday autocrosses :p )or whenever the temp gets consistantly above zero.
Well, think of it as saving your summer tires for summer and by getting the winter tires you're basically getting 2 sets of tire that you would've gotten anyway if you were driving year round. So your summer tires would last longer when you put them away for winter. But I also heard summer tires don't wear as fast in the cold? Anyways, the blizzaks I got are 18inchers supposedly more performance oriented and is able to cope with driving on dry roads (long as it's not in hot temp) so it should be fine driving in Vancouver when it doesn't snow. I think the most important thing is that even though we don't get much snow, when it does snow the major streets are mostly cleared but the sidestreets are usually murderous alleys packed with hard ice formed when snow melts in the day and refreezes at night. I remember my side street had ice on it for about.... a week and a bit?
Thanks for the heads up Andrew about the time of day and sand bags, I think I'll scout it out in my friend's suv when winter comes and then decide if I wanna try it.
lol, I envy your garage dannobre :D

I got the LM22s from Grandview Tires. I don't think they make WS50s in 18 inch sizes? There's a newer LM25 or something model that's out but the guy there tells me the carcass is a lot more rigid than the old LM22s which maybe better for handling but I didn't care since it's a snow tire anyway

So how the heck do I get to drive with you guys.. the roads in southern Ontario are mostly cruise control... Want to see and drive those cool Rockies...
