Thank's Pooch,
I'll try to contact my dealer and get my VIN but so far they don't seem to know a lot about the car
About the "race"... you win... I guess I'm getting to old for that stuff The other day, I was driving at close to 200 and just before Henri IV's overpass I slowed down... to 120... lucky for me because just behind it, a nice policeman was waiting with his radar... I looked at him and smiled :D
See ya

There have been numerous people who have talked about how they were surprised that they could just walk into such and such a dealership with just the VIN, and got a key without anyone even asking for proof of ownership.
And don't forget about the people who work at the dealership. There are some unscrupulous types who work there (alright, no salesman jokes ) who would be able to bypass all of those "checks". I know of one dealership in Houston where friends would take their cars for basic service, and stuff would either be stolen off the car at the dealership, or coincidentally the day or two after their visit from their car at home. Of course, the dealership never helped anyone in finding the culprit, even when it happened on their property in the daytime.
Not that that is every dealership, and not to deride dealerships in general, but frankly, your security is not their top concern. And it only takes one.

The 4 cars that are on CN rail are just entering Saskatchewan. I'll update again tomorrow before noon.
The list is getting long so from now on I'll only post those that are active. If you sent me your VIN and it's not appearing on the post it simply means your car is not on the train yet but don't worry I'll keep checking them.

...i've made the decision that the screen shots of multiple VIN numbers and information are a strict no-no... i'm sorry to make your job a little more effort intensive Pooch, but knowing about the information which can be found through VINs, after you've taken delivery, i'm making the call that public posting of VINs is a no-go at all in the Canada forum: all VIN checking and information must go through PM's, or some other section if you still REALLY want to make it public.
i'm sorry, but i sincerely don't want any bad business to come of this forum.
sincerest regards,
Andrew

I don't agree with your decision. I think it should be up to the owner of the VIN. There has been all kinds of VIN's posted all through this forum, why worry about it now?
Unless someone knows your personal information (full name, address etc) I think a VIN is useless to anyone. Am I missing something here?
I'd be interested to know everyone else's opinion.

I agree that it should be personal choice.
But if it is going to stay no VINs, I've already PM'd Pooch and offered to help with keeping everyone updated.
Since he's already going out of his way to get us this info, I'd be glad to do the distribution for him, especially since he isn't even waiting for an 8.
Of course, that's only if people don't mind me having their VINs...

I don't think that anyone should be posting any VIN number without the permission of the owner of said VIN. Common courtesy, since some people adhere to security on different levels.
BUT I don't think posting VIN numbers should be banned outright, especially when it's done by one persons point of view.
Andrew, did you discuss this with the other mods and Admins of this site? How about the owners of these VINs? I don't agree with this decision either, it's too broad and should be discussed.

The more I think about this, it's a joke. I appreciate your concerns Wakeech, but think about it. When your car is parked in a parking lot, the VIN is in full display to the public! You don't even have a car on order, so chill out.
Maybe I'm not smart enough to realize what someone can do with just a VIN and nothing else. The RX 8 Forum surely couldn't be held liable for anything discussed or displayed in the public domain!

Like I said, if the owner decides to post it up, it's his/her perogative.
Btw, the fact that Andrew doesn't have an 8 on order doesn't preclude him from being a good mod. He could drive a scooter for all I care.

I agree with these other opinions.
Also there is no way to even prove that someone "owns" a VIN.
This is all anonymous, no one knows who we all really are, unless we decide to post that info as some have in this Candian Forum.

I hope Wakeech isn't upset with my comment about not having an 8 on order. What I meant to convey is we who have cars coming, have a personal interest in any and all info available. Anyone else wouldn't be as "anxious" as we are, especially with all the lack of info, and the fact that so many cars have been delivered in the US. This is the first time we can see any light at the end of the tunnel, as the US guys couldn't run our #'s for us.

Canadian VIN posting controversy
Andrew: I think you did the right thing. Thanks. A tough decision and shows good "moderation", IMHO.
Rotorian: You're not going to be very anonymous when you get that stunning winning blue RX-8 GT with moonroof- I'd guess one of a very very few in the Oakville/Burlington/Hamilton area. More eyes are going to be on that car than you can ever imagine!!!
I don't know....it seems self-evident to me. I think its great that people are helping out with tracking the car, and this is a great little community we've got going, and sharing and cooperation are....well....just canadian things to do....but please, lets on this one thing try to err on the side of caution......for the security of our members and their beloved (or soon to be) cars.

UPDATE
Man a lot of stuff went on here while I was gone.
Thanks to those who appreciate the effort. It's no problem for me not to show the VIN.
As for the others, I know me and my fellow Z drivers will enjoy the fact that almost half the RX-8 drivers on the road will be WUSSIES!!!!. :p
Here's an update for the 5 cars with "active" VINs. They're all on the same train and on these two rail cars.
No other VINs come up so far.
I'll update again over the weekend.
wakeech edit: i'm stupid!! ****, sorry man!! did NOT realize the pic was ok at first... on second glance, i'm a moron :o... will try to fix so you don't have to
second edit: *dammit* follow the link: it's here
again, sorry, i'm a dummy... OVER moderation... hahaha... Pooch you're doing a great job.

As moderator of this forum, Keech had the right to disallow the publication of people's VINs, if you PM, that's fine since you are the one making the choice on whether or not you want people to know your VIN! Plus, it's always better safe than sorry! I think Keech did a good move here, regardless of whether he discussed it with other mods or not! I mean, the other guys aren't going to babysit Keech and tell him what to do under each situation! Obviously, Keech has the appropriate skills that ultimately led him to becoming a mod! And Keech specifically said you can continue to lookup your cars through private sections, but once your car is released and sold, that VIN should be kept safe since you no longer need updates on the car. Different Mods have different rules. To sum up,it's all because he CARES for our cars!

I PM'd my VIN to you. It might be usefull for me and others if you indicated who's VINs you have found on the train, and who's you have not. (without posting any VINs, just our user names).
Thank you very much for your efforts. We are all excited to get the cars, even if your 350Z is going to be faster! :p

Pooch - you think that the CN date of July 23 at Dartmouth is correct? Mazda is still insisting the ride from Van to Dartmouth is 12-14 days. I hope the 23rd is right - trying to get a little more confidence in it as I'm buying airfare to cooincide with Dartmouth delivery date.
mdmaclean - Faster? That is a direct function of who's *** occupies the "sculpted bucket seat." Pooch, I'll drop you a line if I'm passing through Quebec City. Maybe we can arrange to meet at a secluded little redlight someplace....

I expect your car to arrive in Dartmouth on July 22.
It left Armstrong Station, Ontario this morning and will likely be in Toronto tonight. I can't remember last fall when I was waiting for my Z if CN moved on Sundays but as I mentioned to someone in a PM, CN's ETA is always conservative.
DO NOT BOOK A FLIGHT FOR THOSE DATES YET.
It can take a couple of days to unload from rail car to delivery truck plus rail yards are not places where the public can have access to. Even dealers usually can't pick up cars there so make sure you get the okay from everyone involved.
Not to discourage you but in my opinion you or the dealer will not be able to pick up the car at the rail yard.
FYI last October my car went from Vancouver to Montreal in 5 days via CN and then took 6 days to be trucked from MTL to Quebec because THE ******* COMPANY (used to be called Auto Haul-Away, Kingsway now I think) that delivers cars to all dealers has no competition and allow themselves to be very independent.
Good luck and be patient.
