I'm getting some Toyo's put on this weekend. It's pretty tough to find winter tires in the size I want for the Miata.

Leesha,

Don't you worry about it, I'll get you back for that one. LOL

why do you need a stupid fast rating on a winter tire, honestly it's a waste of money. You will never drive past 200 in th winter, if you do you shouldn't be on this forum. I would spend the money on whatever tire can get you from A to B safely. 200+ kph tires are just a waste, seriously when do you go that fast, do you really wanna be pulled for street racing in the winter?

That's my two cents.

Hi. You mentioned in another thread that you would not install winter tires at your shop that were not speed rated appropriately for the RX-8.

Could you please expand on what speed rating we should be looking for on winter tires? in your post above, it says "Q".

Thanks.
The post above is an example only. you should have at least a V speed rating or better and a load rating of 91 or better.

Again, the point is not out and out speed, rather the load/speed capability of the tire you put on. 2 years ago I tried lower rated tire on a Mazdaspeed 6 and quickly confirmed what I already knew. The car drove like crap on a dry road and would not track straight, the edges of the tires were destroyed within a month of cruising speed around normal corners. Your cars have very sophisticated suspensions and normal cars have problems keeping up in corners when you are just going at a comfortable pace. You can't put "normal" snow tires or any tires for that matter on your sophisticated car.
