warrenty transfers

Hi All,

I'm in the process of purchasing a 2004 RX8 from a used car dealer(not a Mazda dealership). The car has 60,000km and was an off lease purchase. I know the car comes with a 5year/100,000km powertrain warrenty. The car was built in april 2004-- which would mean that the warrenty is valid until atleast april 2009?

How would I go about transfering the warrenty to myself? As i'm not getting any type of warrenty from the used car dealership.

thanks!!

It follows the VIN#, no need to do anything IMO.

I just bought a 2005 with 41000km in January (not from a Mazda dealership), brought it in to mazda a few weeks ago, and had the rear light replaced under warranty for free.

No paperwork or transfers to be done. Just showed up and they did it.

You dont need to do anything, as long as the warranty is not an extended warranty, it is associated with the VIN number of the vehicle, not the owner.

Where are you located and how much are you paying for a 2004 out of curiosity? Personally i wouldn't touch a used 2004, especially since you'll be able to find a 2005 for about the same price and a 2006 for just a few thousand dollars more. Will give u the piece of mind of having more warranty.

the options for an rx8 where limited... I paid 17 for an 04 GT with 60,000km. The car is in MINT condition..... i did my research and even thought about importing one.....

17k is a great price.

I think at that price its well worth it to go with a 2004.

Considering opting in for the extended warranty, i think they have an option that will extend your powertrain for 7 years/ 160k
