Hi all,

Let's get a gauge off what everyone is putting in their 8.

I only use Sunoco 94 Octane fuel. More octane the better right? (At least I hope so...)

I get about 300km's per tank, all city driving. I can get around 450 hwy.

What are ya'll gettin?

Maybe I need to clean my MAF again....I think my K&N is gunking it up. The MAF is that sensor with the "teardrop" isn't it?

yes that is right.. a lot of people just use brake cleaner. I'm not sure what the difference, but I use the genuine stuff designed to clean MAFs. A manufacturer named CRC makes it. It's called "CRC MAF CLEANER", and I searched all over to find it in Toronto. Turns out only Napa Autoparts store carries it.

In particular, the one I bought it at is on Birchmount Rd. south of Eglinton in Scarborough. It retails for about $11.99

Oh nice...there's a NAPA in Whitby on my way to work. I'll give that a shot. I used varsol one day cus I was lazy and couldn't find anything else, lol...I'm definately not getting the economy I'm looking for. Any suggestions on what else it could be? Is the V-Power a higher quality fuel than the Sunoco 94? I only have 32,000km on the car so the engine should be fine.

I'm no fuel expert, so I can't say. However I do know that Sunoco 94 is enhanced with ethanol to create the 94 octane rating. I read somewhere (again this maybe just opinion of forum members) that ethanol and rotaries don't work too well, so we don't get the benefit of it.

Another comment more on the engine side of things is that our engines run on a static 10.0 : 1 compression ratio. It isn't a very high ratio compared to the likes of something like the S2000 engine. It is however, higher than something like a family car Civic running 9.1 : 1 so some people are saying that the premium fuel is "recommended" but not required by the engine.

Vpower is widely accepted in the 8-community as high quality fuel.

I've recently ran a comparison between Shell and Sunoco running 91 octane.
I didn't see much variance. I think I might have gotten 20-30km's extra from Sunoco. But again, not a big difference.

High compression engines will always benefit from high octane fuel. I'm pretty sure the RX-8 specifies 91 Octane as recommended. It's safe to say you should always run at that octane level. But sometimes you find yourself in places not carrying high octane fuel. In which case you can run on 87 octane, but don't expect to get the same performance. The computer will compensate for the lower octane rating. Meaning no high RPM action.

I know for my FD ultra94 is minimum. It actually prefers to run on 96 octane. It'll run on 91 but not for extended periods.
It's even riskier if you've converted to single turbo.

375km city is winter driving needle down toe last tick. Light on the past 50km. So the light comes on at around 325km

I use Pioneer 91 gas. I heard a rumor/old wives tale that Pioneer 91 is actually Sunoco 93 but I use Pioneer because it's generally cheaper where I live and I get a minimum of 425 kms mixed and an all time record of 585kms. I also get a buck or so every time I fill up the car.

I hate reading these threads. They make me sad...

I get about 300km per tank (just to the light coming on) in the city. Normally use Chevron 92.

By the way, whatever performance / sports car I've had seems to only get around 300km/tank in the city.

Even the Father-in-law's Dodge pickup (with the V10) seems to get about 300km in the city.

Rather than blaming the car, why not blame the city?

i get 325 until the light comes on usually. thats virtually all city. the only expressway i got on is the hanlon expressway, which is a joke. stop lights all over it and the limit is 70, so that doesnt count. a few times i've done highway trips with a little bit of mixed city in there and gotten 375 before the light comes on...but usually when i get on the highway, i take it as an opertunity to clean the engine out . oh, my fuel is almost always esso 91. i can remember only once that i havent filled up at either the esso by my house or the esso by my work. that time i was way out in the country. it was a private station and i know the owner very well, so i trusted that it was 91 as well. there are only two shells in guelph i think, and both of them have very annoying parking lots, so i never use them.

I get around 400-420KM a tank. That is a mix of 70/30 Highway/City.

I blame our damn highways. When everyone is cruising at 120-130KM/H, the gas burns much quicker

I was getting about 200-275km per tank... though that was running with the lead spark plug unplugged. Lol... we'll see what I get out of this tank...

Always 91, station depends what station I am coming up to, but never no name little crappy stations.

Winter driving I am not mention cause it is **** **** ****.

Summer 400+ish km before light, 460-480 about for the tank. 1st 1/4 of the tank (via gauge) goes so fast

I just put my COBB into Eco mode for a tank. See what that does. And I put on an Agency Pulley.

~10km city, ~85km highway every day
~130km/h highway during the day
~115km/h highway during the night
1 redline in 2nd gear during the day

Estimated 480km/tank from my last fill-up I believe. I was just about ~240km 2 ticks past halfway (which is 30L for me).

Just had my plugs and wires changed @ Scarborough, see if that makes any difference with this fill-up.

Ran through one tank of Sunoco 94 with the COBB port set to Economy. My fuel economy went from 300 a tank to 400. Not a bad improvement at all...also used MAP Cleaner on my MAP sensor and added an Agency Power pulley.

I get about 350 km id say. Ive driven from Ottawa to St-Jean-sur-Richelieu and all the way back to Rigaud (if anyone knows where it is. pretty much QC and ON border) on 1 tank.

I average around 350km, that’s about 75% city. I guess 350km seems like the average for most of us…
