What made you choose RX8?
Hi everybody.
I am shopping for a car now (need to get one in May), and RX8 is on my shopping list. For the last 3 years I was driving Miata, was happy and loved every second behind the wheel. Basically I'm looking for something fun, which for me means a smaller RWD car with manual. I'm looking at Miatas, RX8, s2000, z350 (or G35), maybe older Boxster or one of lower BMWs. I don't really care about convertible, can live without it. Another car I enjoyed in the past was '91 240SX - if one was available today I'd get one immediately. And keeping fingers crossed for Kabura.
I don't do any racing, just want to enjoy everyday driving. I'm not looking for lowest mileage and highest reliability, but these are of some importance to me (i.e. I'm willing to compromise, but only to some extent).
So what made you choose RX8 among other cars that I'm sure you looked at?
Was it 4 seats? Unique Engine? Something else?
I know nobody can decide what's a "right" car for me, just want to hear what was your deciding factors. Maybe you can suggest me looking at some other models?
Thanks.

Not sure how to put it...
I too had a miata which this car replaced. I like it because it feels like a bigger miata. Light on its feet with very good handling.
I was looking at pretty much the same cars as you. The G35 is too soft, not much of a driver's car. The 350z is more brunt. Kind of heavy with a compromised chassis but lots of power. The S2000 was a no-go because I was done with only having two seats.
Coming from a miata I don't think you'd be the type to complain about a lack of power in this car. It's all about the handling.
Also, maybe you should take it on a track. It's loads of fun and the car would really impress you there.

The 4 seats were a big factor seeing as how I love to drive and have friends with me most of the time. 2 seats just aren't enough. Price also played a factor on it. I believe the G35 coupe was about 10K more. I also liked how there weren't that many on the road.

If you're buying new, the MSRP of the S2000 and 350z are both $9000 more than the RX8 in Canada.
Price was one of the reasons too I picked the RX-8. I wanted something with rear wheel drive, fun to drive, non-convertible.
A passenger that has never sat in a rotary-engine car commented that my car sounded like it had a quiet electric motor that just whirled away... she liked how it just revved like crazy, and then she's never heard of a shift beep either, so she panicked and asked what that sound was, cause she thought it was some warning sound that something is gonna blow up! LOL

I needed 4seats and unique sports cars with 4seats becomes a short list. lol
I did not want to buy a stock rx8 because I was coming from a supercharged mustang and felt that it needed a turbo kit.
I was lucky to find a white low mileage rx8 with turbo, clutch/flywheel and exhaust already installed so I jumped on it!

NAH I'm +7 hours Eastern Time.
It's only 8:30pm here.
The really weird thing is this.....
I'm staying in Finland (on the border of Russia -- Imatra Finland awesome place)
I'm working 7 km away in Russia which is a timezone away.
I leave for work at 5:45am and arrive at 7:15am!! and the trip only take 30 minutes!
Obviously I gain it on the way back which means an extra hour of beer drinking time.
oh and AAARRRRRRGGGGGG another Pirate Threadjacking!!!!

I wanted a sporty car that looked different than anything else out there - I never imagined all the head-turning it promoted and still does 4 years later. I needed to be able to fit my goalie equipment in it. I definitely wanted another Mazda since I was more than happy about the 275K and 14 years I got out of my MX-3. I fell in love with the 8 when I saw it at the Toronto autoshow in either '03 I think it was...just had to have it!! Bought it in June '04 and have no regrets.
