Angry What Pay For My Free Oil Change???

I picked the option of having free oil changes. 5000 k went no problem. 10k they tell me is not a part of the free maintenance schedule. Dealership tell me it is only every 8000k, although i should be checkin the oil and topping it up as rotary engines burn it. I ended up paying $29 bucks. I am going to refer mazda canada to my manual 8-5 Schedule II maintenance.......Which states change oil every 5000 K..........OWNERS has this happenend to you, and do i have a leg to stand on??????Who do i call???? Thx in advance...

In the USA there is a Mazda TSB that specifies the free maintenance is for schedule 1 (every 7500 miles) or schedule 2 (every 5000 miles) - the choice is up to the customer (which usually depends on their driving location/conditions.)

There should be something similar for Canada. You may have to search for it or ask another Mazda dealer. If you can get confirmation (a copy of the TSB), show it to your dealer and ask for a refund else you would report them to Mazda for not honoring their agreement.

Good luck.

I'm pretty sure Schedule II is every 5000 miles, which is about 8000 km. As it is, my dealer (Kramer Mazda in Calgary) has my 8 today doing the transmission damper recall and an oil change - it's not due for another few thousand km, but they persuaded me to let them do it earlier. I said OK, as long as it's free! :D

Gordon

5K miles....

Gord is right (wish I had a dollar for every time I've typed that!)
Schedule II for Canada is every 5K miles/8K km.
Mine goes in next week for its 24,000 km change!

i had a little trouble with this awhile ago when i went for my 10k service. it's not just 5k miles its 5k miles or xMonths whichever comes first. so when i went in to pick up my car the paper said they did the maintenance for schedule 1 12months/15k miles(i just turned a year with this car). so by schedule 2 which i thought i was using i was actually BEHIND on services- so you may actually be behind too if it took you awhile to get to 10k miles. how many months since your 5k miles/8km service?

I lied - well actually, was lied to! When I went to pick up the car, I was told "we didn't do the oil change, it wasn't due yet". I said "YOU are the ones who suggested the change when you called me to book the service appointment, and said it was no problem to do earlier!!" She checked and the service request just said "oil change if required", so the tech said "not required".

Don't get me started on the trans damper recall! I first went in for it in April, with the airbag wiring recall. The new trans damper was backordered, so they said they'd call when it arrived. Over 2 months later, I got a call (early July) that MY trans damper was in, when would I like to come in to get it installed? I explain about my imminent vacation, and we arrange for Aug 5, and they promise that they will hold MY trans damper for that appointment. One month further on, and I drop the car off this morning for the recall work, then call at 4 pm to ensure it's ready, and they say they didn't do it because the part isn't in stock!!! I nearly lost it, but after explaining that they'd better not have given MY transmission damper to someone else after I waited three months for it and they'd promised to hold it for my appointment, they gave me a story about one being in transit at that moment from another dealer and it would be installed before I arrived to pick up my car. Sure enough, it was. I still don't know what was going on, but at this point I don't care!

Regards,
Gordon

Don't you LOVE it when you book an appointement.....

It goes something like this:

You: Hi, I would like too book an appointment for my transmission recall

Dealer: Ok, your name and # please...

Dealer: Ok, what time is good for you.... blah blah blah.

Dealer: Will you be leaving the car or waiting for it.

You: I'll be waiting for it, how long should it take?

Dealer: About an hour.

You: Ok, so 10am for transmission recall on my RX8 on the 5th, ok thanks!

Dealer: Thanks, bye.

So the 5th rolls around.... you show up at 10am.

9:45am
Dealer: Hi, may I help you?

You: Yes I'm so and so, here for my appointment at 10am.

Dealer: Ok, what would you like us to do today?

You: Transmission recall... like I told you on the phone......

Dealer: Sure, ok no problem. Are you leaving the car?

You: I'm waiting for it!

Dealer: Ok, have a seat, you'll be out in a jiffy.

You: Ok thanks.

10:30am.....

You: Hmmm looks like my car isn't in the bay yet

11:00am.....
You: Oh damn I'm going to leave this is pissing me off......

11:10am
You: FINALLY they took the car into the bay.... won't be long now!
.............. :D

12:10am...

Dealer: Mr. X..... Hi, ummm we don't have the parts for your transmission recall, can you come back another day.

You: *%$*(#&$#@$#$#@$#@#@#$%%$*&)(%$()%&

Dealer: Oh, we'll get one right away sir, sorry sir.

i said this before in the europe forum but it needs repeating here- it seems that dealer service is the same the world over. worst customer service i can think of. how can it be that it's the same story no matter what country? do they all go to the same "how to treat your customers like crap" class?

This is the first I have heard of free oil changes. Are certain people only entitled to it, or does everyone qualify?
How can one cash in on this?
I also heard we get free touch up paint automatically sent to us.

You can get free maintenance for 3 years if you buy your RX-8 prior to August 24, 2003. Oops, too late!

Seriously - it was offered to early RX-8 buyers as part of the compensation for the HP rating fiasco. When we bought our RX-8s, they were rated at 247 hp. It was only after a couple of months that Mazda downrated the engine to 238 hp, and had to offer the free maintenance and a $500 rebate to those who bought the car before the rating was revised.

Gordon

I learned a long time ago to get to know the manager of the service dept at my local place...and when I need work done, I print out the service bulletin (in the case of the tranny cover and airbag) and take it in. I then ask them to call me when the part arrives, and we can then schedule service.

There is certainly no way to deal with a dealership that calls you that the part is in, then it isn't...but general rule for others....always call and order parts WELL in advance, and try to get the service dept guy to know you.
