Where do you guys get your oil changes/services done ?
Hey everyone its almost time for my first oil change ever since ive owned the car. Im looking for a reputible dealer. I hear some people say scarboro mazda is amazing but it might be too far for me. If no one has any suggestions ill probably drive down to scarb mazda. Do you guys know any other dealers who know their stuff about rotaries ? Or do you guys do your own oil changes ?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

scarboro mazda is crap I took my car there to run a diagnostic and find out why my car was shuttung down at stop signs and lights and they couldnt figure it out. Anyways later on I found with the help of this forum it was my catalytic converter.

I'd strongly recommend you simply do it yourself. I find it really irritating to sit and wait a considerable period of time for the car to have its turn in the shop then have someone work on it. You can ensure it's done right. Imagine how interested you'd be in doing an oil change if it was your 15th of the day? It's also a good opportunity to check for other leaks, issues, etc.
If you don't want to do it yourself, take it anywhere, you certainly don't need to go to the dealer, it's just an oil change.

I was playing with the idea of doing it myself. Cause like people said, you will be more certain that your car is getting the proper care it needs. Sometimes mechanics arent too careful when they work on a car thats not theirs. But i dont think ill be able to do it myself because i dont have the tools, im only 85 percent sure about what im doing, and when it comes time to do other service that might be more for a licensed mechanic i wont be able to do it.
If i were to do it myself. How much would the equipment cost... etc... Also my driveway is fairly steep.
I would deff much rather go to a reputible shop/dealer.
SO i need other suggestions as to where to go. I need an oil change BAD !!! Is scarboro mazda good or bad ?

Oil change is easy enough that no mechanics should fck it up.
That said, ask for Anthony to serve on your rx8. He displayed above average dedication and work ethics, esp towards the rx8s.
Moreover, he is only 1 course away from obtaining his Mazda master technicaian badge, so I say hes pretty damn good.
you can go talk to him before the change...

And this is at Scarboro right?? Wasnt there a guy who worked there that was good with rotaries. He left. I read this in a thread in the Canada forum a while ago.

I usually bring my RX-8 to Avante Mazda (Richmond Hill) - Dave Gurnett is the foreman there. I bring my RX-7 to Mazdees (Pickering) to let another Dave do it for me. But sometimes dropping of my 7 to Mazdees is a hassle, so I brought my 7 to Avante for a few times, pretty good deal there. Saw a few FC servicing at Avante Mazda sometimes too. If Scarboro Mazda too far for you, maybe Avante Mazda??

Avante or Scarboro.
If its Scarboro, make sure you speak to Mark Outar as the service rep, and ask if Anthony can work on your car.
WHen talking to Mark, tell him that "Andrew", another RX-8 guy sent you there upon good recommendation for excellent service.

I might have to go check out this anthony guy. He seems to know his stuff. I don't think the drive would be that bad, I live in maple wonderland area. Shouldn't be more than 20 minutes. One more thing, how much am I looking at for an oil change ? Should I make an appointment or its not too busy there ?

Anthony is good. Tell him that "Joshua said you are the best here." He should be happy. (Ok, I don't know how all these name dropping works but hey hes on my facebook lol...)
Numerous mechanics has come and gone in Scarboro Mazda. So far Anthony stayed there longest...(hope he won't jump ship after he obtain his master mech badge....hm...)

I called and made my appointment. I spoke to Mark, very nice guy and easy to talk to. I asked if Anthony is there. He said its his birthday today. And that hes leaving early. So go wish him a happy birthday. Also i wanted a check up cause i jsut got the car a few months ago. And Mark said it would cost 103 bucks which is pretty disappointing. I wanted to make sure everything was okay. Man i wish i was more mechanically inclined.

Question... The last oil change was done at about 61 000. And personally i want to o them every 3000 as other people on this forum do. My question is does that mean i shouldd knock off 5000 km off of every Mazda Maintance Service (because they say do oil changes every 8000, and other things by factors of 8000s). Like im not sure when the last owner did his servicing etc... in terms of other aspects of the car. Not sure if mileage came before time or other way around. Its an 06 with 64 000 RIGHT now. A bit confused cause i dont have any record of servicing. Any help ? Thanks
