300 wear on the Proxes, and you only ran them for 20k???
Something isn't right. Was this highway driving on the 407?
I had my stock rubber on the miata (re050a) last me for about 45-50k. They're bald now. But their wear rating is 140!

Ladies and Gentleman....................As i have stated before many times on this forum the traction, treadwear and temperature ratings are all manufacturer specific. That means THERE IS NO INDUSTRY STANDARD. Do not think that because one manufacturer has a higher or lower number in the above "3TS" that one is longer lasting or stickier than the other! lol

lots of 401 between kingston and ottawa, aswell as a few trips to teh states as far as washington d.c , , Im not sure what happened, yes i did a few donuts but nothing to the point of this type of wear. had the car checked out of balance and everything and it was fine. I need some new tires maybe the goodyear gts , what do you guys think

I just checked Tire Rack pricing for some SUV tires for a customer................the strong CDN has had a defininte effect on prices differences. Right now Tire Rack is about $30.00 per tire less than what we can RETAIL the same tire for. By the time you add your expenses its actually cheaper here!

I'm gonna need some new tires, but i'm going to be travelling alot so i'll keep an eye on this thread. When you guys are closer to a decision I may jump in. I've been looking at NT05s or INVOs though

With our dollar being so strong, hopefully it'll hold for the coming season.
It's going to be tough to find a better deal than the Tirerack.
I know Tires23.com has been very competitive in the past. I hope they'll be able to honor the difference.
Or if Al can get us the same pricing as the Tirerack, then we'll be golden.

aggressive driving, late braking, late apexes and generally using the car at 9/10ths will seriously us up rubber in a hurry... especially stock rubber sizes
which are too narrow for the potential of the chassis.
I was over driving the stock rubber in the first week i had the car lol
thank god for the stability control... and thank god for the button that defeats
the stability control
I went through 3 sets of pads and 5 sets of tires a summer with my driving style and at least 8 track days a summer
Im sooooooo dieing to get this car to Mosport and turn out some sub 1:56 laps
I do 1:50 in a Cayman or Boxster S and 1:45 in the Fiero

Hey guys,
I'm not interested in the group buy but I picked up my tires two years ago at Bailey Tire in Buffalo. they offer 10% discount to Canadian customers and they can mount and balance your tires when you go pick them up. They are about 10 minutes across the border. (I don't remeber which bridge I crossed, I think it was the Peace bridge)
I picked up a set of Kumho Ecsta XS 245/40R18 from them and payed around $170 usd a tire.
I'm sure if you e-mailed them they could also work out a group rate for you to price against tirerack or discount tire.
The Kumho's are a great summer only tire with insane dry grip, the wet grip is okay at best as long as you drive normally in the rain. Anything below 10 degrees and they are like rocks with no traction.
I know from experience with my old Miata the Falken RT615's are a good tire and Falken recently reworked the tread compound on them and they are apparently a little better.
I have also read that the Hankook RS-3's are supposed to be extremely grippy in the dry.
All those tires will wear quite fast but they provide supreme dry performance for a low cost.
Also, i would not recommend anybody putting all season tires on their RX8, even a high performance all season will just ruin the way the car handles and responds. If you drive your car in the winter don't be cheap, get proper summer tires and proper winter tires, there is no such thing as a true all seaon tire.
Tires are the most important handling aspect of a car!

To update my previous post.
If you are not looking for an extreme summer tire then some other good tire choices for a reasonable price would be the Falken FK451, or the Hankook Ventus V12. I've also hear good things about the Kumho Ecsta SPT.
If you're willing to spend a little more the Toyo T1R is a great summer tire.
Those tires aren't as aggressive as the tires I listed above but they will wear a little slower and will also be better in the wet and probably a little quiter too.
The Dunlop Star Specs are also a great extreme summer tire from what I have read and heard from people who have tried them.

Alright, so I've been taking a quick look around for pricing on these RE-11's in size 205/45/17.
So far, the best incentive is to cross the border to pick up a set for $740US.
Everyone around here want these tires for 1100+
With our dollar being so strong, I think it's going to be worth driving across the border at Niagara Falls and getting the tires mounted there.

I'm still looking for 2 summer only sets, one set for my 8, another staggered set for my wife's 1 series.
