Wankler, with the list of cars mentioned I'd expect a heavily modified fiero.

Well, how many people are actually good for this?

Because the lowest price I can get for RE11's in 205/45/17 is just over 1G. Everywhere else is asking for $1130+.
God knows what'll cost when you spec out sizes for the 8!

So lets see a show of hands... how many people are still interested?

Hey guys,

It sounds like you may have made a decision but I'm going to throw one more tire into the mix that you should consider.

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta.

I know what you're thinking, what the heck is that tire brand, but I have done some research and apparantly this tire brand has been around for 70 years in Europe and they're trying to gain distribution in the U.S. and Canada so their prices are good.

I have a couple buddies that run modified M3's and they both run this tire as their regular street tire. I have been doin some reading on the M3 forums and apparntly a lot of guys are switching to this tire as it provides similar handling characteristics to the Michelin PS2 for a fraction of the cost with better tread wear.

There are a lot of Vredestein dealers in the GTA but so far only one that says they are authorized to get this particular tire, Oakville Motorwerks.

I spoke with a guy there yesterday and I should have pricing from him on a 245/40R18 today. I will update this when I have the pricing.

This is the tire I will be going with this year for sure, if you haven't made a decision for sure on a tire yet I suggest doing some research on this particular tire.

The guy at Oakville Motorwerks said that the tire falls right between a Toyo T1R and a Michelin PS2 as far as dry/wet handling and comfort goes with more tread life.

I haven't seen anyone really signed up for a group buy. And a few have already found other tires so they're out.

How many people are serious about getting a set of tires? So far as I can tell I'm the only one.

To make this work, we're going to need at least 10 people committed to getting new tires this season. No maybes, or on the fence here.
If I go to the dealer and say there are 10 people interested in this size of tire, what kind of discount are we looking at. They might co-operate.

As for the previous post, we're strictly dealing with tires we can get here. And not for nothing, it's not a brand that has extensive knowledge in tires just yet. It's a firm that was conjured up out of nowhere. They're trying to enter the market, but none of their stuff has been proven. In the end, you get what you pay for. If you're only after cheap rubber, then this group buy isn't going to work.
If you're after great tires for a good price, then this will work for you.

So again, how many people are actually serious? The season is just around the corner....

Get whatever tires you want, I don't really care, I'm just trying to help out, but how can you say they're a company without extensive knowledge in tires. Vredestein has been around for 60 years in Europe.
I don't cheap out on rubber but I also refuse to overpay for tires just to have a brand name.
I have a couple buddies that run these tires on their modified M3's and they both say they are great tires. One of the two is a performance driving instructor so he knows what he's talking about, not to mention all the other guys out there that have tried these tires out. I have yet to read a bad review on them.
I remember a few years ago when the Falken 512's came out and a lot of people didn't want to go near them because most people hadn't heard of them and then people started running their tires for autocross and they ate the competition for a lot less money.
All I'm saying is do some research before you start bashing something.
Also, you can get the tires in Canada as I stated in my previous post and you can also get them in the U.S.

Back in the early 80's, Vredestein was the tire to autocross on in stock class.

For sure I'll get two new sets next month; a set of 245/40/18 summers for the 8 and a set of 215/40/18 front and 245/35/18 rear all-seasons for my wife.

Unless something definitive comes up here, I'm trying tirerack - although it's hard to figure out a shipped to your door price...

I've asked Tires23 and Simply Tire. Even so far as to go down to Buffalo with our dollar being so good... but alas, the cheapest I can get tires up here for is a bit over 1G.

I haven't gone around and priced out the sizes you guys want... I can send them a request and see what the price would be for 225/45/18 or 245/40/18.

But you guys have to be sure about the tire. Lots of people here want to run different types of rubber.

I'm sticking with RE11's. Some people want the Dunlops. Others want some Russian brand. I haven't seen anyone else go for pricing.

I'm going to ask Simply Tire to see what their quotes will be for those sizes above. And we'll see.

So far, it's only you, 9291150, and myself. I don't think we'll get much of a discount if it's going to be 3 people.
I tried making a list of people who are in for sure, but no one wants to add their name.

Alright, here's the prices for the sizes you guys mentioned:

here are some staggered 225-45-18 and 245-40-18 sizes.

Hankook Ventus K110 Evo - $1,010.00 or $980 CASH
Falken FK452 - $995.00 or $970 CASH
Falken ZE912 - $770.00 or $750.00 CASH
Bridgestone RE760 Sport - $1,045.00 or $1,1015 CASH
Continental Extreme DW - $1,130.00 0r $1,100.00 CASH

This is from Simply Tire. I have yet to ask what Tires23 can do.

Tires 23 can get you some good deals, I was about to mention them but I see Neo is on the ball. I know for a fact the can get Hancooks V12's for $1000 taxes in and installed and Yokohama S-drives for about $1200 installed. I got my Yoko Sdrives for $950 cause I bought rims off him too.

You guys are better off just finding your preferred tires in the U.S. and having them shipped to your door if you don't want to drive to Buffalo.

As an expample from Tirerack the Hankook V12 EVO's in a 245/40R18 come to $892.00 Usd after shipping, duty and taxes.

With the dollar being so strong you are looking at around $870 Cad which is still $140 cheaper than the group buy price from Simply Tire.

Canadian Tire distributors can't compete with the U.S. pricing.

Also, I would stay away from the Falken ZE912's as they are a all season tire which should really have no place on a RX8.

Leesha,

I don't know why you would put all season rubber on a car that never came with any all season rubber to begin with.
There's a reason why people say all season is no season!

As for the list, I'm simply giving people some choices. No one else has come up with pricing.

Boeuf,

As I mentioned before, I managed to do pricing on the tires I wanted. And it came out to $1068US. And I'll still have to get them mounted somewhere. Where I can go to Simply Tire and get them out the door and installed for 1G.
There was no savings.

I also tried to see about driving to Buffalo. I'm pretty far from Buffalo. The tires would have to be in the neighbourhood of $700 to make it worth my while. But, they came out to $869US. Not including time there, fuel wasted, and then trying to get away with not declaring them when you cross the border. Not worth it.
It would make sense if I lived really close to the border. If that was the case, then by all means. But alas...

I have yet to get the quote back from Tires23. As soon as I do, I'll post them.

It seems alot of people want different types of tires. So I gave you a choice. But by all means, don't get no season tires!

You're right. Tirerack has a set of SP Dunlops for my 8 at $552, and Yoko S Drives for my wife at $624 - even with all the bullshit it's $1755 all in including HST ($172), duty ($81), broker & tire fees ($76), and shipping ($253).

It's freak'n disgusting how we always get raped up here.

Why do you need all season if you already have a winter setup? Get summer tires so your car can perform to its full potential as it should be!

The price of the tire has changed on the Tire Rack... went down $15 a tire... so now the whole kit and kibbudle comes out to $1016US. Presently, that's about $980Cdn... But, I would still have to get the tires mounted onto the rims... still above the 1G asking price. Just can't win at this sort of thing...
