Wow, seeing that snow covered area in your bumper, makes me think twice about re-installing the MS CAI...

Perhaps I should sell it and buy a Racing Beat REVI one.

Footman, NO. Don't be a Racing Beat convert, lol. Just kidding. The RB is nice, more expensive, plus keeps that stock engine bay look but I prefer the Mazdaspeed/AEM intakes. Mazdaspeed seems like the right notch, not overly agressive, but not quite too.

yeah I really like the MS CAI sound. Plus it's lighter too. The MS Exhaust also is much lighter than the RB exhaust, as that is the path I am going towards.

Footster, snow isn't going to do anything to the intake. It all just packs on the grill.

It would be a lie to say that wasn't a stressful night. It was slightly unsettling to hit some snow and have it fly up on the windshield.

Ben, the Pirelli Snowsport tires on your car is garbage for actual snow. I should know because I have the exact same tires, and they're useless in anything more than 2" of snow. I was sliding down the 401 slope near Ikea with the tail hanging out the whole time on Friday. This car is quite neutral at low speed and tend to run out of traction *** first in this type of low traction condition.

If you're worried about next winter, just sell the Pirelli Snowsports and buy some hardcore snow tires. I managed to survive this winter only because my schedule is flexible and I don't live in some rich neighbourhood with lots of road incline. There is no way those Pirelli will get you up a slope that wasn't plowed.

Yikes! Yeah, I get that same thing....which is why I don't like driving in the snow. What's a good 18" snow tire to have, cuz I want to pop it on the stock rims, just like my Pirellis?

I have 225/45/18 blizzaks and they are pretty good, but I think no matter what tires you get, 225 is just too large.

If you want the best driving experience with your 8 in the snow, Id get a narrower tire.

215/17 or 205/17 if possible.

How much do Blizzaks run for? I got a sick deal, thanks to God on my four Pirelli's. I got them from a guy selling it on craigslist for $400! It has good tread on it too.

The last thing you want to do is skimp on your tires. They're the only things that keep you on the road.
Blizzaks are not that expensive. Granted they're not going to be $400 a whole set (any tire bigger than 16 becomes expensive).
But I think you can take a look at the Tirerack and be pleasently surprised by how affordable Blizzaks are.

I second the Blizzaks. I've gone through 4 winters on the WS-50's and they haven't let me down. I plan on switching to WS-60's when I need new winter tires.

I just used Graspics this year, Dunlops, and they havent failed me. I think the Blizzaks are Winter Performance tires, while the Graspics are just Winter tires, performance being you can drive a bit faster and still maintain traction, but they do cost more. I found it useless spending that extra money since speed is the last of my concern in winter driving. I live in Markham, and my lane doesnt get plowed till the very end, and I had no problem with my Graspics, Last Saturday, during the store I drove out at 6 pm from Markham to Sick Kids, since I had work, and didn't slip once during my trek down 16th Ave to the 404 to the DVP to Sick Kids.

well the way I see it, here in the GTA it doesnt take long for the roads to be cleared of snow. So performance winter tires, to me, are like my summer tires but for the cold weather.

hehe...from my experiences only once was I stuck on an unplowed road (and it was a small side street). The highways are good and that's really where you can actually use the extra speed on the road on high performance winters:-P

In my area, the subdivisions never get plowed. It's pretty bad. And I thought Markham was supposed to be better than Toronto for snow removal.

Bridgestone has two basic winter tires:

The WS-50 series Blizzak tires are the serious winter tires (studless ice and snow)and only have a Q speed rating (up to 160 kmh). The LM series is Bridgestone's performance winter tire and have a V speed rating (up to 240 kmh).

The replacement for the 50 series is the WS-60 and they have an R speed rating (up to 170 kmh).

I've had the WS-50's from the old Protege we had.
The tires were still in good condition so I've put them on the 3. This is the 2nd season with them. The tires overall have seen 5 seasons. This is their last season. I'm always in "race" mode whenever I drive. So I go through tires pretty fast.
No crazy launches or anything, just out braking or out cornering everything else on the road tends to eat up the tire quick.

This year we equipped my old man's 6 with the new WS-60's along with my sis-in-law's 3.
They have nothing but good things to say.

You get what you pay for.

The Graspics are rated Q so 160 kph max, honestly I don't ever hit past 140 in the winter, but then again to each his own.
