Why do my brakes squeek in the cold?

Hi Guys,

Why do my brakes squeek only in the cold temps?

I took it to the dealers and they did the computer updates & TSB brake update but I still have the squeaking? What should I do?

Brake squeaking?? You can hear your brakes squeak??? Clearly you don't have a loud enough exhaust!

Brake squeak is normal when it's cold. It means you have good brakes! Track ready baby!! :D

Yep, mine squeak a bit when it's cold until a few hard stops, at 4000 km.

Yea mine squeaks too when it's cold...and when it's raining. Dealer said it was due to the aggressive brakes on the 8. They applied something on the brakes which temporarily stopped the squealing. But it's back now and I dont really mind it. Rather have the stopping power with the squeal than lose the squeal and add to the stopping distance.

Brake squeal in cold and wet days is normal. It should go away after a few traffic light stops. If it persists then it is a problem. There's a TSB on it.

Well if the pads are new then you might want to try Bedding the brakes there is a thread somewhere around here about that

Just get used to it. It won't squeak anymore when you replace the OEM brake pads with something else.

You should try those Carbo-Ceramic brakes. Those are squealers!

Embarrassing?? How can that be embarrassing? This tells people you're a hardcore racer!
Real brakes are suppose to squeak.

Snyper pads(williams performance, a toronto based company!!!!), you get 2 sets if you autox in the PITL autocross series. They only cost like 70 bucks a set, and I love them. No sqeal, as well, they feel softer at regular driving, not nearly as grabby like the stock pads, at regular heat, with great bite when glowing red.

I heard some of those cracked under hard driving. They were giving them out as "test" pads. No warranty implied. Offroad use only.

And you got 2 sets?! I only got one.

The metal content in brake pads causes squealing when they are cold. I used to get it a bit with the stock pads, but now that I have Mazdaspeed pads they really squeal. However after a few hard stops they are warm enough to be quiet the rest of my trip.

You know NEO, thinking back, when I had high performance bike brake pads installed on my mountain bike, they too did squeak in wet conditions.
